  1. 1. “Everything important is to do with passion” : Iris Murdoch’s concept of love and its Platonic origin

    Author : Kate Larson; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Murdoch; Weil; Plato; philosophy; art; love; eros; attention; decreation; unselfing; spiritual exercise;

    Abstract : The object of this dissertation is to highlight the influence of Simone Weil and Plato on the philosopher Iris Murdoch. This is done through an investigation of her concept of love. The aim is to investigate the concept as it is portrayed in Iris Murdoch’s work with the claim to be a central, but as such neglected, concept in philosophy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Blow-ups and normal bundles in derived algebraic geometry and beyond

    Author : Jeroen Hekking; David Rydh; Marco Robalo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; derived algebraic geometry; blow-ups; normal bundles; Weil restrictions; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : The main part of this thesis, Part II, consists of four papers. A summary and background is provided in Part I.Paper A introduces blow-ups of derived schemes in arbitrary centers, which is a generalization of the quasi-smooth case from [KR19]. READ MORE

  3. 3. Families of cycles and the Chow scheme

    Author : David Rydh; Dan Laksov; Martin Olsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Families of cycles; Chow scheme; Hilbert scheme; zero-cycles; divided powers; symmetric tensors; symmetric product; Weil restriction; norm functor; Algebra and geometry; Algebra och geometri;

    Abstract : The objects studied in this thesis are families of cycles on schemes. A space — the Chow variety — parameterizing effective equidimensional cycles was constructed by Chow and van der Waerden in the first half of the twentieth century. Even though cycles are simple objects, the Chow variety is a rather intractable object. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computing abelian varieties over finite fields

    Author : Stefano Marseglia; Jonas Bergström; Christophe Ritzenthaler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; abelian varieties; finite fields; period matrices; ideal classes; orders; number fields; integral matrices; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we address the problem of developing effective algorithms to compute isomorphism classes of polarized abelian varieties over a finite field and of fractional ideals of an order in a finite product of number fields.There are well-known methods to efficiently compute the classes of invertible ideals of an order in a number field, but not much has previously been known about non-invertible ideals. 5. 5. Meiji Protestantism in History and Historiography

    Author : Aasulv Lande; Carl Fredrick Hallencreutz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Meiji Protestantism; Japanese Christianity; Japanese Church History; Missionary studies; Missionsvetenskap; Missionsvetenskap; Studies of Missions;

    Abstract : The present study provides an analysis of two different but interrelated historical dimensions. The first dimension, the founding process of Japanese Protestantism, is analysed in its wider historical context on the basis of contemporary scholarship, particuhirly Japanese. READ MORE
