    Abstract : Background Animal models can be used to mimic human conditions of psychopathology, and also as pre-clinical models to evaluate candidate drugs. With hormonal treatment it is possible to produce behavior in the rat which corresponds to the mental symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). READ MORE

  3. 3. About hyaluronan in the hypertrophic heart : studies on coordinated regulation of extracellular matrix signalling

    Author : Urban Hellman; Anders Waldenström; Stellan Mörner; Anna Engström-Laurent; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : hyaluronan; hyaluronan synthases; gene expression; extracellular matrix; cardiac hypertrophy; rat wistar; male ; cardiomyocytes; growth factors; fibroblasts; microvesicles; exosomes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Background. Myocardial hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Independent of underlying disease, the cardiac muscle strives in different ways to compensate for an increased workload. This remodelling of the heart includes changes in the extracellular matrix which will affect systolic and diastolic cardiac function. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the possible role of serotonin and angiotensin for the respiratory abnormalities observed in panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria

    Author : Marie Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; panic disorder; premenstrual dysphoria; serotonin; paroxetine; PCPA; angiotensin; saralasin; respiration; respiratory variability; CO2; sodium lactate; female sex steroids; estrus cycle; Wistar rats;

    Abstract : Panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria are accompanied by intriguing abnormalities related to the control of respiration, including enhanced responsiveness to CO2 and enhanced respiratory variability. These aberrations do not seem to be shared by other psychiatric disorders, but appear to be relatively unique for panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoria. READ MORE

    Abstract : Genes and environment interact to determine an individual’s vulnerability or resilience to several psychiatric disorders, including alcohol use disorder (AUD). Alcohol use is often initiated during adolescence and early onset drinking is associated with increased risk for later AUD. READ MORE
