  1. 6. HAMLET - In vivo effects and mechanisms of tumor-cell death

    Author : Lotta Gustafsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; proteasome stress; HAMLET; human milk; tumor-cell death; clinical trial; rat xenograft model; skin papilloma; glioblastoma;

    Abstract : HAMLET (human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumor cells), a molecular complex derived from human milk, is an interesting new tool in cancer research since it induces programmed cell death in tumor cells while leaving normal, differentiated cells unharmed. The in vivo effects of HAMLET were studied in a rat xenograft model of human glioblastoma. READ MORE

  2. 7. Novel immunotherapies for metastatic melanoma - from mouse models towards clinical trials

    Author : Elin Forsberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic melanoma; uveal melanoma; patient-derived xenograft; immune-humanized mouse model; immunotherapy; adoptive T cell therapy; tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes; chimeric antigen receptor T CAR-T cells;

    Abstract : Immunotherapies including checkpoint blockade and adoptive T cell transfer (ACT) show great promise for the treatment of melanoma, with long-term effects in some patients. However, around half of the patients with metastatic malignant melanoma will not be cured with available therapies today, and these patients require other treatment strategies. READ MORE

  3. 8. Islet xenotransplantation : An immunological study in the pig-to-mouse model

    Author : Birgitta Benda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; xenotransplantation; porcine; islet; in vivo; knock-out mouse; immunohistochemistry; CsA; MDL 201; 449A; Ig; FcR; IL-6; perforin; granzyme B; macrophage; eosinophilic granulocyte; T cell; TCR; IFN- g; TNF- a; IL-2; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Abstract : Successful clinical xenotransplantation, i.e., transplantation between species, would eliminate the shortage of donor organs. In order to study the acute cellular rejection reaction following discordant xenogeneic transplantation, an experimental pig-to- mouse islet xenotransplantation model was established. READ MORE

  4. 9. Cell-based models for studying paediatric high-grade gliomas

    Author : Susanna Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; paediatric brain tumour; glioblastoma; glioma stem cell; primary culture; xenograft tumour; zebrafish;

    Abstract : Brain tumours are the largest group of solid tumours in children and accounts for most cancer-related deaths. Astrocytoma is the largest group, representing almost half of the brain tumours, where high-grade glioma is one of the most devastating forms with very poor prognosis due to lack of efficient treatments. 5. 10. Experimental models of pediatric brain tumors. Establishment, immunophenotyping and clinical implications

    Author : Emma Sandén; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatric Brain Tumor; Experimental model; Immunotherapy; Immune monitoring; Medulloblastoma;

    Abstract : Brain tumors are the most common solid tumors in children. Current treatment protocols fail in 25% of patients and are associated with significant long-term adverse effects in survivors. READ MORE
