1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models
Abstract : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. Islet xenotransplantation : An immunological study in the pig-to-mouse model
Abstract : Successful clinical xenotransplantation, i.e., transplantation between species, would eliminate the shortage of donor organs. In order to study the acute cellular rejection reaction following discordant xenogeneic transplantation, an experimental pig-to- mouse islet xenotransplantation model was established. READ MORE

3. Novel immunotherapies for metastatic melanoma - from mouse models towards clinical trials
Abstract : Immunotherapies including checkpoint blockade and adoptive T cell transfer (ACT) show great promise for the treatment of melanoma, with long-term effects in some patients. However, around half of the patients with metastatic malignant melanoma will not be cured with available therapies today, and these patients require other treatment strategies. READ MORE

4. Experimental studies on xenograft rejection
Abstract : The use of animal organs and tissues may provide a solution to the severe and worsening shortage of human grafts. The aims of the present experimental studies were to provide a better understanding of the rejection mechanisms and give new clues for prevention of xenorejection, thereby hopefully contributing to the development of clinical xenotransplantation. 5. Studies of Rejection in Experimental Xenotransplantation
Abstract : One main hurdle to xenotransplantation, i.e. transplantation between different species, is the immunological barrier that the organ meets in the recipient. The aim of this thesis was to characterise xenogeneic rejection mechanisms by using the concordant mouse-to-rat heart transplantation model. READ MORE
