  1. 1. Engineering and Functionalization of Degradable Scaffolds for Medical Implant Applications

    Author : Yang Sun; Anna Finne-Wistrand; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Minna Kellomäki; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tissue engineering; nanodiamond; scaffold; bioreactor; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : The treatment of bone defects is facing the situation of lacking donations for autotransplantation. As a valid approach, scaffold-based tissue engineering combines the construction of well-defined porous scaffolds with advanced cell culturing technology to guide tissue regeneration. READ MORE

  2. 2. The role of computer-aided design and surface chemistry on Cell-scaffold interactions

    Author : Sun Yang; Anna Finne-Wistrand; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Jinshan Pan; My Hedhammar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amorphous degradable copolymer; aliphatic polyester; 3D fiber deposition; computer-aided design; Tween 80; BMSC; hOB; porous scaffolds;

    Abstract : Cell interactions and cell response to three dimensional scaffolds based on poly(L-lactide-co-1,5-dioxepan-2-one) [poly(LLA-co-DXO)] and poly(L-lactide-co-e-caprolactone) [poly(LLA-co-CL)] wereimprovedstudiedby increasing surface hydrophilicity and by using computer-aided scaffold design. Different amounts of Tween 80 (3, 10, 20 wt%) were mixed with the copolymer and it was found that the water contact angle decreased significantly with the amount of Tween 80. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transformation Optics for Controlling DC Magnetic Field

    Abstract : Based on the form-invariant of Maxwell’s equations under coordinate transformations, we extend the theoryof transformation optics to transformation magneto-statics, which can design magnets through coordinatetransformations. Some novel DC magnetic field illusions created by magnets (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. (Photo)electrochemical Water Oxidation: From Catalysis to Functional Device

    Author : Hao Yang; Licheng Sun; Marc Koper; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial photosynthesis; solar fuels; water oxidation; nucleophilic attack; conjugated microporous polymer; host-guest chemistry; photoanode; perovskites; artificiell fotosyntes; solbränslen; vattenoxidation; nukleofil attack; konjugerad mikroporös polymer; värd-gästkemi; fotoanoder; perovskiter; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The key challenge within artificial photosynthesis is achieving efficient electro- or photo-driven water oxidation catalysis, a necessary process to supply the protons for the reduction reactions, thereby enabling solar fuel production. To facilitate efficient water (photo)electrolysis for solar fuel production, this thesis focuses on two aspects: 1) elucidating the O-O bond formation mechanism and developing efficient, stable, and economical water oxidation catalysts (WOCs); 2) exploring stable, low-cost, light-absorbing photoanode materials that have suitable band structures and excellent charge diffusion properties. 5. 5. Exploring Electronic Processes at the Mesoporous TiO2/Dye/Electrolyte Interface

    Author : Wenxing Yang; Boschloo Gerrit; Hagfeldt Anders; Johansson Erik; Gerald Meyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dye-sensitized solar cells; dye regeneration; Stark effect; the local electric field; cationic effect;

    Abstract : Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are an attractive way to convert light into electricity. Its development requires a detailed understanding and kinetic optimization of various electronic processes, especially those occurring at the mesoporous TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface. READ MORE
