  2. 17. Evolution of Yeast Respiro-Fermentative Lifestyle and the Underlying Mechanisms Behind Aerobic Fermentation

    Author : Arne Hagman; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crabtree effect; aerobic fermentation; respiro-fermentation; ethanol production; yeast; central carbon metabolism; evolution of alternative lifestyles;

    Abstract : Under aerobic conditions, most yeasts such as Kluyveromyces lactis, prefer the respiratory pathway and some, such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae prefer less energy efficient fermentative pathway for their energy metabolism. These two metabolic strategies are also known as Crabtree negative and Crabtree positive respectively, and the evolution of the latter has lately been explained by the “make-accumulate-consume” life strategy. 3. 18. Systems biology of yeast metabolism - Understanding metabolism through proteomics and constraint-based modeling

    Author : Carl Malina; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteomics; metabolism; Systems biology; constraint-based modeling; yeast;

    Abstract : Metabolism is the set of all chemical reactions that occur inside of cells. By providing all the building blocks that are required for sustaining a cellular state and cell proliferation, metabolism is at the core of cellular function. Therefore, in order to understand cellular function it is important to understand cellular metabolism. READ MORE

  4. 19. Yeast biotechnology for nutritional improvements of fermented cereal-based foods - Phytate degradation and folate production

    Author : Andreas Hellström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Anaemia is a serious public health problem in nearly all developing countries. It has negative consequences on cognitive and physical development of children, reduces work capacity in adults, and increases the risk of maternal and child mortality. READ MORE

  5. 20. Studies of the chromatin form of yeast Mediator and the function of its tail module

    Author : Miriam Nilsson; Stefan Björklund; Claes Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mediator complex; Transcriptional regulation; yeast; tail module; transcription; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Mediator is a large, multifunctional complex that is conserved in eukaryotes. It was first discovered in Saccharomyces cerevisiaeas required for transcriptional activators to function in a reconstituted in vitro system. Mediator is also important for stimulation of basal, unregulated transcription, and transcriptional repression. READ MORE
