  1. 11. Two-Level Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm for Risk-Based Life Cycle Cost Analysis

    Author : Yamur K. Al-Douri; Uday Kumar; Jan Lundberg; Hussan Hamodi; Ahmed Al-Dubai; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Artificial intelligence AI ; Life cycle cost LCC ; Machine learning ML ; Multi-objective genetic algorithm MOGA ; Risk-based life cycle cost LCC ; Tunnel fans; Two-level system; Operation and Maintenance Engineering; Drift och underhållsteknik;

    Abstract : Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the fields in science and engineering and encompasses a wide variety of subfields, ranging from general areas (learning and perception) to specific topics, such as mathematical theorems. AI and, specifically, multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) for risk-based life cycle cost (LCC) analysis should be performed to estimate the optimal replacement time of tunnel fan systems, with a view towards reducing the ownership cost and the risk cost and increasing company profitability from an economic point of view. 2. 12. On-farm agrohydrological analysis of the Sahelian yield crisis : rainfall partitioning, soil nutrients and water use efficiency of pearl millet

    Author : Johan Rockström; Jim Wallace; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Natural Resources Management; naturresurshushållning;

    Abstract : Sub-Saharan Africa is presently experiencing a steadily aggravated food security crisis. This crisis is a result of a rapidly growing population combined with insignificant yield increases of the major cereal crops maize, millet and sorghum, during the last decades. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis studies and develops copula-based portfolio optimization. The overall purpose is to clarify the effects of copula modeling for portfolio allocation andsuggest novel approaches for copula-based optimization. The thesis is a compilation of five papers. READ MORE

  4. 14. Addressing water scarcity in the Bolivian Altiplano for sustainable water management

    Author : Claudia Canedo Rosso; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Climatology; climate modes; Drought; Water balance; ENSO; Soil moisture; crop yield; Remote sensing; Bolivian highlands; arid and semiarid regions; Climate anomaly;

    Abstract : Water scarcity is a consequence of complex interactions between water access and water use. In fact, the time period over which precipitation deficit accumulates is a determing factor for the occurrence of drought. Drought induces crop production losses and far-reaching societal effects. In the South American Altiplano, drought is a major hazard. READ MORE
