    Abstract : This thesis examines the music of two female ngoma, or music-dance events, that are associated with weddings in Zanzibar: unyago and msanja.     Abstract : This study addresses the presence of religious difference in the Muslim-dominated cultural setting of Zanzibar, a context in which, in 2012, Christian minorities became targets in violent events directed against representations of the politically contested Union with Mainland Tanzania. As the attacked churches are primarily attended by people of non-island origins and the incidents were blamed on local Muslim-revival groups, the events posed questions about the political significance produced at the intersection of religious belonging, ethnonational origins, and Union politics.     Abstract : Background: After decades of neglect, a renewed global focus on malaria was initiated in the 90s, followed by global financial support in the early 2000s. Zanzibar has been in the forefront of these renewed efforts: Case management and vector-control interventions have been implemented and scaled-up rapidly, resulting in markedly reduced malaria transmission and the targeting of malaria elimination.
