  1. 6. Laser-Based Techniques for Combustion Diagnostics

    Author : Nikola Georgiev; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; LIF; Laser-based diagnostic techniques; PS; DFWM; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Georgiev;

    Abstract : Two-photon-induced Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing, DFWM, was applied for the first time to the detection of CO, and NH3 molecules. Measurements were performed in a cell, and in atmospheric-pressure flames. In the cell measurements, the signal dependence on the pressure and on the laser beam intensity was studied. READ MORE

  2. 7. Amyloid beta aggregation kinetics : The role of intrinsic and extrinsic factors

    Author : Xiaoting Yang; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Abeta; aggregation; kinetics; secondary nucleation;

    Abstract : Cerebral senile plaque is one of the main pathologies of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The amyloid cascade hypothesis suggests that the aggregation of amyloid beta (Abeta) peptide is involved in the pathogenesis of AD, which is supported by the fact that Abeta overexpression or production of more aggregation-prone variants lead to early-onset dementia. 3. 8. Temporomandibular joint pain, hyperalgesia and allodynia in relation to interleukin-1ß and serotonin

    Author : Per Alstergren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Arthritis; Human; Hydroxocobalamin; Hyperalgesia; Inflammation; Interleukin-1; Pain; Plasma; Serotonin; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibular joint; Vitamin B12;

    Abstract : This thesis had two main aims and comprises a methodological and a clinical part. The aims were to develop a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovial fluid (SF) sampling method that enables the determination of the true SF level of various substances and, by using the developed TMJ SF sampling method, investigate the hypothesis that circulating as well as SF content of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and serotonin (5-HT) influence different TMJ pain entities and signs of tissue destruction in patients with TMJ inflammatory disorders. 4. 9. Acute Symptomatic Seizures : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Imad Halawa; Eva Kumlien; Guido Rubboli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Seizure.; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Epilepsy is defined as a condition with recurrent unprovoked seizures. When seizures are believed to be provoked they fall into another category of situation-related seizures, i.e. acute symptomatic seizures (ASS). READ MORE

  5. 10. Development of a Novel QCM Technique for Protein Adsorption Studies

    Author : Fredrik Höök; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; viscoelastic effects; myoglobin; QCM; hemoglobin; ferritin; dissipation factor; protein adsorption; conformational changes;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis (Papers I and II) is concentrated on the development of a novel quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique to study protein adsorption. The second part (Papers III-V) is focused on the application of the technique on protein adsorption using well characterized surface-solution-protein systems. READ MORE
