  1. 1. Theoretical and Phenomenological Studies of Neutrino Physics

    Author : Mattias Blennow; Tommy Ohlsson; Eligio Lisi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrino mass; neutrino mixing; neutrino oscillations; matter effects; non-standard effects; the day-night effect; solar neutrinos; accelerator neutrinos; exact solutions; three-flavor effects; large density; neutrino decay; neutrino decoherence; neutrino absorption; non-standard neutrino interactions; seesaw mechanism; stability criteria; leptogenesis; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the theory and phenomenology of neutrino physics. While the standard model of particle physics has been extremely successful, it fails to account for massive neutrinos, which are necessary to describe the observations of neutrino oscillations made by several different experiments. 2. 2. Cosmic dust and heavy neutrinos

    Author : Erik Elfgren; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Fysik;

    Abstract : This Doctoral thesis treats two subjects. The first subject is the impact of early dust on the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The dust that is studied comes from the first generation of stars, which were hot and short-lived, ending their lives as giant supernovae. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fundamental properties of neutrinos: masses and mixings

    Author : Solveig Skadhauge; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; Fysik; Physics; quantum mechanics; classical mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; statistical physics; gravitation; relativity; statistisk fysik; termodynamik; thermodynamics; klassisk mekanik; kvantmekanik; relativitet; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Skadhauge;

    Abstract : Neutrino physics is one of the fastest growing topic in phenomenological high energy physics. Neutrinos are elementary neutral particles and participate only in the weak interactions. For this reason it is very difficult to detect them experimentally. Nevertheless, much experimental progress has been obtained in the recent years. READ MORE

  4. 4. Charged current quasi-elastic muon neutrino interactions in the Baby MIND detector

    Author : Sven-Patrik Hallsjö; Soler Paul; UK University of Glasgow College of Science and Engineering School of Physics and Astronomy; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment in Japan is designed to study neutrino oscillations, to determine the mixing angles and mass-squared difference of the neutrino mass eigenstates and, potentially, to discover CP violation in neutrinos by comparing neutrino to antineutrino oscillations. In the near detector complex 280 m downstream of the produc- tion target at the Japanese Particle Accelerator Research Centre (J-PARC), the WAGASCI experiment will measure the ratio of cross sections from neutrinos interacting with a water and scintillator targets, in order to constrain neutrino cross sections essential for the T2K neutrino oscillation measurements.
