  1. 21. An adaptive finite element method for the compressible Euler equations

    Author : Murtazo Nazarov; Johan Hoffman; Mats Larsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This work develops a stabilized finite element method for the compressible Euler equations and proves an a posteriori error estimate for the approximated solution. The equations are approximated by the cG(1)cG(1) finite element method with continuous piecewise linear functions in space and time. READ MORE

  2. 22. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Fluid Structure Interaction Problems with Applications to Human Phonation

    Author : Niyazi Cem Degirmenci; Johan Hoffman; Johan Jansson; David Nordsletten; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluid Structure Interaction; Finite Element Method; Contact Modeling; Acoustic Coupling; High Performance Computing; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Abstract : This work presents a unified framework for numerical solution of Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) and acoustics problems with focus on human phonation. The Finite Element Method is employed for numerical investigation of partial differential equations that model conservation of momentum and mass. READ MORE

  3. 23. Towards an adaptive solver for high-dimensional PDE problems on clusters of multicore processors

    Author : Magnus Gustafsson; Sverker Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Accurate numerical simulation of time-dependent phenomena in many spatial dimensions is a challenging computational task apparent in a vast range of application areas, for instance quantum dynamics, financial mathematics, systems biology and plasma physics. Particularly problematic is that the number of unknowns in the governing equations (the number of grid points) grows exponentially with the number of spatial dimensions introduced, often referred to as the curse of dimensionality. 4. 24. Higher Order Finite Elements and Adaptivity in Computational Electromagnetics

    Author : Pär Ingelström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with efficient and accurate numerical methods for the solution of Maxwell's equations. In particular, the finite element method with higher order elements and adaptive mesh-refinement is considered. READ MORE

  5. 25. Domain-based partitioning for parallel SAMR applications

    Author : Johan Steensland; Michael Thuné; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of domain-based partitioning techniques for dynamic structured grid hierarchies, occuring in structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) methods. Such methods for obtaining the numerical solution to partial differential equations yield highly advantageous ratios for cost/accuracy as compared to methods based upon static uniform approximations.
