  2. 2. Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptors and Signal Transduction : Effector Output in Relation to G-Protein Coupling and Signalling Cross-Talk

    Author : Johnny Näsman; Peter Evans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Adrenergic; receptor; G-protein; adenylyl cyclase; cAMP; calcium; cross-talk; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) subfamily includes three different subtypes, α2A-, α2B- and α2C-AR, all believed to exert their function through heterotrimeric Gi/o-proteins. The present study was undertaken in order to investigate subtype differences in terms of cellular response and to explore other potential signalling pathways of α2-ARs. READ MORE

  3. 3. β-adrenergic regulation of glucose transporters

    Author : Olof Dallner; Tore Bengtsson; Jeffrey Pessin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenergic receptors; glucose transporters; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : The transport of glucose across the plasma membrane is a fundamental mechanism to provide cells with its basic requirements for energy yielding processes. It is also vital for clearing glucose from blood into tissues, a process normally stimulated by the hormone insulin in mammals. READ MORE

  4. 4. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Author : Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Abstract : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Adrenergic receptors in brown adipose tissue

    Author : Jan Svartengren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to identify adrenergic receptors and to investigate their regulation of physiological processes in brown adipose tissue.Isolated hamster brown fat cells and plasma membrane fractions contained a high number of α1- and β1-adrenergic receptors, as assessed by direct radioligand binding techniques using (3H)prazosin and (-)(3H)dihydroalprenolol, respectively.
