  1. 1. Structure formation at solid/liquid interfaces : Understanding self-assembly and environmental challenges

    Author : Shirin Nouhi; Adrian R. Rennie; Vassilios Kapaklis; Maja S. Hellsing; Ann Terry; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solid liquid interface; neutron scattering; colloidal particles; self-assembly; perfluoroalkyl substance; Moringa seed proteins; adsorption; lamellar disorder; thermal fluctuations.;

    Abstract : The work described in the present dissertation has explored the structure of particles and molecules at solid/liquid interfaces, aiming to understand the physics of self-organizing systems and use this knowledge to address some environmental issues. Surface-sensitive neutron scattering techniques, such as reflectometry and grazing incidence small angle scattering, have been used as the primary tool to investigate structures in proximity to an interface. 3. 3. Adsorption at the Solid-Liquid Interface: An Atomic Force Microscopy Study

    Author : Lachlan M Grant; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; hydrophobicity.; self-assembly; aggregate geometry; atomic force microscopy; nonionic; adsorption; surfactant; Fysikalisk kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate nature of adsorption of amphiphiles to the solid–liquid interface. The surface aggregate structures of the zwitterionic surfactant dodecyldimethylammoniopropanesulfonate, (DDAPS) and a series of nonionic polyoxyethlylene glycol alkyl ethers (C10E5, C12E5, C12E8, C10E6, C14E6 and C16E6) have been determined by Atomic Force Microscopy on solids of different hydrophobicity. 4. 4. Adsorption of polyhydroxyl based surfactants

    Author : Maria Matsson; Per Claesson; Robert Meszaros; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; surface chemistry; adsorption; surfactant; nonionic; alkyl glucoside APG ; ellipsometry; kinetics; alkyl amine oxide DDAO ; alkyl ammonium bromide DTAB ; solid liquid interface; synergism; coadsorption.;

    Abstract : Adsorption on solid surfaces from solution is a fundamental property of a surfactant. It might even be the most important aspect of surfactant behavior, since it influences many applications, such as cleaning, detergency, dispersion, separation, flotation, and lubrication. READ MORE

  5. 5. Multilayer Structures for Biomaterial Applications : Biomacromolecule-based Coatings

    Author : Tobias Halthur; Per M. Claesson; Bjørn Stokke; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multilayer; layer-by-layer deposition; physical chemistry; surface chemistry; adsorption; ellipsometry; QCM-D; DPI; protein adsorption; polypeptides; biomaterials; biosurfaces; amelogenin; solid liquid interface; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Abstract : The cellular response to a biomaterial, such as a dental implant, is mainly governed by the surface properties, and can thus be altered by the introduction of a surface coating. In this thesis the buildup of a biomacromolecule-based coating formed by layerby-layer (LbL) deposition of the charged polypeptides poly(L-lysine) (PLL) and poly(L-glutamic acid) (PGA) has been studied.
