  1. 1. Towards Environmentally Friendly Aero Engines

    Author : Rickard Avellan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geared turbofan; energy efficiency; turbofan; environmentally friendly; DDTF; aero engines; GTF; aircraft;

    Abstract : Since the introduction of subsonic jet driven commercial aircraft, incremental improvements in overall efficiency has been a driving requirement as well as a selling argument for the engine industry. The historical overall efficiency improvement is the result of continuous advances in aerodynamic design, increase of overall pressure ratios, turbine inlet temperatures and propulsive efficiencies in parallel with the development of stronger and lighter materials. 2. 2. On the Design of Energy Efficient Aero Engines: Some Recent Innovations

    Author : Rickard Avellan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbofan; aero engine; inter-turbine reheat; emissions; variable cycle; energy efficiency; propeller; NOx; MDO;

    Abstract : In the light of the energy crisis of the 1970s, the old aerospace paradigm of flying higher and faster shifted towards the development of more energy efficient air transport solutions. Today, the aeronautical research and development community is more prone to search for innovative solutions, in particular since the improvement rate of change is decelerating somewhat in terms of energy efficiency, which still is far from any physical limits of aero engine and aircraft design. 3. 3. Numerical Simulations of Noise Reduction Devices for Aero Engines

    Author : Haukur Hafsteinsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustic liner; G3D; CAA; CFD; CD-nozzle; LES;

    Abstract : Increasing air traffic and denser population around airports have led to stricterregulations on aircraft noise. The engine is the main source of noise of jet aircraft.Decreasing jet engine noise can in some cases reduce sonic fatigue andthereby increase the engine lifetime. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs.As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 5. 5. A multi-objective evolutionary approach to simulation-based optimisation of real-world problems

    Author : Anna Syberfeldt; Philip Moore; Robert I. John; Amos Ng; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : Evolutionary algorithms; simulation-based optimisation; multi-objective optimisation; noise; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a novel evolutionary optimisation algorithm that can improve the quality of solutions in simulation-based optimisation.Simulation-based optimisation is the process of finding optimal parameter settings without explicitly examining each possible configuration of settings.
