  1. 1. Nanotribology, Surface Interactions and Characterization : An AFM Study

    Author : Rubén Álvarez-Asencio; Mark W. Rutland; Suzanne Giasson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : When two surfaces achieve contact, then contact phenomena such as adhesion, friction and wear can occur, which are of great interest in many disciplines, including physics, physical chemistry, material chemistry, and life and health sciences. These phenomena are largely determined by the nature and magnitude of the surface forces such as van der Waals, capillary and hydration forces. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of Nanowire Friction using AFM-based Manipulation

    Author : Gabriela Conache; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanomanipulation; AFM; Nanowires; Nanotribology; Friction; Nanotechnology.;

    Abstract : In this thesis we present friction studies on InAs nanowires pushed laterally across surfaces by an AFM tip. The contact length in the direction of movement is of the order of a few tens of nanometers, and is thus comparable to that found in existing point-contact studies, but perpendicular to the motion the wire can be several microns in length. 3. 3. Microsensors for in situ electron microscopy applications

    Author : Alexandra Nafari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; capacitive read-out; Microsensors; In situ TEM; TEM-AFM; TEM-Nanoindenter; AFM; nanoscale characterisation; MEMS; Nanoindentation; piezoresistive read-out;

    Abstract : With the ongoing miniaturisation of devices, the interest in characterising nanoscale physical properties has strongly increased. To further advance the field of nanotechnology new scientific tools are required. READ MORE

  4. 4. Scanning probe techniques as an investigation tool for semiconductor nanostructures and devices

    Author : Jovana Colvin; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; III-V semiconductors; AFM; STM; KPM; SCM; c-AFM; Crystal growth; Doping; Defects;

    Abstract : Semiconductor nanostructure based devices provide new opportunities for contributing to a sustainable energy usage. This includes harvesting of energy (solar cells) and saving of energy, e.g. in lighting (light-emitting diodes, LEDs) and transfer of energy (power devices). READ MORE

  5. 5. Phase Transformations in Solid Pharmaceutical Materials Studied by AFM, ESCA, DSC and SAXS

    Author : Denny Mahlin; Göran Alderborn; Sven Engström; Duncan Q M Craig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; lipid; lactose; phase transformation; phase formation; crystallisation; AFM; X-ray diffraction; ESCA; DSC; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Mixing excipients is a common way to produce pharmaceutical materials with suitable properties for drug formulation. An understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in the formation and transformation of the structures of solid state mixtures is crucial if one is to be able to produce materials with the desired properties in a reliable way.
