1. A thermostable alkaline protease from a new alkaliphilic Nesterenkonia sp
Abstract : This thesis concerns a novel alkaline protease produced by an extremophilic microbial specie, designated as AL20, isolated from a feather sample collected at the shore of the alkaline soda lake Abjata in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. The isolate is a heterotrophic, alkaliphilic, halotolerant gram-positive, strictly aerobic, non-motile, non-spore forming bacterium. READ MORE

2. Alkaliphilic Bacillus species and an alkaline active lipolytic enzyme
Abstract : The Great Rift Valley running through Eastern Africa contains a large number of soda lakes. These unique lakes constitute among the most stable alkaline environments with a dense and varied population of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are invariable alkaliphiles and are considered to be a promising source of enzymes with unique features. READ MORE

3. An Alkaline Active Cyclodextrin Glycosyltransferase from an Alkaliphilic Bacillus agaradhaerens
Abstract : Soda lakes represent the most stable naturally-occurring alkaline environments on Earth and harbour a diverse population of alkaliphiles. Alkaliphilic microorganisms have attracted a great interest due to their ability to produce extracellular enzymes that are active and stable at high pH values. READ MORE

4. Production, purification and characterization of antibacterial biomolecules from an alkaliphilic Bacillus
Abstract : Forty alkaliphiles, which were isolated from samples collected in Eastern Africa, have been screened for production of antibacterial compounds. One of these isolates, Bacillus halodurans B20, was able to produce a prominent amount of antibacterial activity against a Gram-positive bacteria on agar plates [paper I] and selected for further study. 5. Bench-Scale Production of Heterologous Proteins from Extremophiles- Escherichia coli and Pichia pastoris based expression systems
Abstract : Over the past few years considerable research attention has been assigned to extremophiles as sources of extremozymes due to their applicability in industrial processes, and the development of eco-friendly technologies. The establishment of efficient production strategies for heterologous proteins is an empirical process requiring broad background knowledge on available expression systems together with their major advantages and shortcomings.
