1. Structure and Dynamics of Core-Excited Species
Abstract : In this thesis we have performed core-electron spectroscopy studies of gas phase molecular systems starting with smaller diatomic, continuing with triatomic and extending our research to more complex polyatomic ones. We can subdivide the results presented here into two categories: the first one focusing on electronic fine structure and effect of the chemical bonds on molecular core-levels and the other one dealing with nuclear dynamics induced by creation of a core hole. 2. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Reactions of Allenes with Lithium Bromide and Cyclization of α-Amino Allenes to Pyrrolines
Abstract : This thesis is based on three novel palladium(II)-catalyzed reactions of allenes with lithium bromide and a bromonium ion induced cyclization of allenyl amides to pyrrolines. In Paper I a 1,2-functionalization of allenes is presented where bromide adds as a first nucleophile followed by intramolecular attack by an oxygen or nitrogen nucleophile. READ MORE

4. Jasmonates in root nodule development
Abstract : Jasmonic acid (JA), its derivatives and its precursor form a group of phytohormones, the jasmonates, representing signal molecules involved in plant stress responses, in the defense against pathogens as well as in development. Elevated levels of JA have been shown to play a role in arbuscular mycorrhiza and in the induction of nitrogen-fixing root nodules. READ MORE

5. Studies on Palladium-Catalyzed Carbocyclizations of Allene-Substituted Olefins and 1,3-Dienes
Abstract : This thesis describes the development and mechanistic studies of carbocyclization reactions of allene-substituted olefins and 1,3-dienes, catalyzed by palladium(0) and palladium(II). These reactions results in the formation of [n,3,0] bicyclic systems (n = 3-5) with high stereoselectivity and in good to excellent yields. READ MORE
