  1. 1. Spectroscopy of Stable and Radioactive Negative Ions

    Author : Annie Ringvall-Moberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic Physics; ISOLDE; CERN; Electron Correlation; Electron Affinity; Photodetachment; Negative Ions; Anions; Radioisotopes; Laser Photodetachment Spectroscopy; Resonance Ionization; Neutral Particle Detection; Wigner Threshold Law; Molecular Dissociation; RFQcb; DESIREE; Radiative Lifetimes;

    Abstract : Negative ions are unique quantum systems which are of fundamental interest within the field of atomic physics due to the importance of the electron correlation in their creation, stability, and existence. Properties of these ions, such as the electron affinity, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. A Collinear Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectrometer - Instrumental Design and Photodetachment Measurements

    Author : Olle Windelius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoelectron spectrometer; photodetachment; synchrotron radiation; photoionization; Angular distributions;

    Abstract : For more than half a century, photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to investi- gate atoms, ions and molecules. Various techniques have been developed in order to measure electron energies and angular distributions using different radiation sources such as lasers and synchrotrons. READ MORE

  3. 3. Negative Ions Interacting with Photons and Electrons

    Author : Anton Lindahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Negative ions; electron correlation; electron affinity; photodetachment; electron collision;

    Abstract : Negative ions are atoms or molecules where an extra electron is bound to neutral system. The nature of negative ions differs fundamentally from neutral and positive systems. The induced dipole potential responsible for the binding of the extra electron supports only a few bound states with relatively small binding energies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Rotationally cold molecular ions in DESIREE : Threshold photodetachment thermometry of OH− and OD−

    Author : Gustav Eklund; Henning Schmidt; Roland Wester; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In experiments on molecular ions it is highly beneficial if the ions are in the electronic, vibrational and rotational ground state. Previous studies on these systems in ion traps or storage rings have been successful in preparing the molecular ions in the electronic and vibrational ground states, but the rotational degrees of freedom are experimentally more challenging due to their long relaxation times and the relatively small amounts of energy required for rotational excitations. 5. 5. Spectroscopic studies of the negative state of atoms

    Author : Jakob Welander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic Physics; Photodetachment; Negative Ions; Anions; Laser Photodetachment Spectroscopy; Electron Affinity; ISOLDE; CERN; Radioisotopes; Photo Angular Distributions; Graphene; Electron correlation; Neutral Particle Detection; Wannier s Threshold Law;

    Abstract : Negative ions are of fundamental interest in atomic physics due to the enhanced importance of the electron correlation. In this thesis new spectroscopic methods have been developed and then applied to study the nature of atomic negative ions. READ MORE
