  1. 1. Alumina Thin Films : From Computer Calculations to Cutting Tools

    Author : Erik Wallin; Ulf Helmersson; Patrick Desjardins; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; thin films; coatings; sputtering; density functional theory; high power impulse magnetron sputtering; HIPIMS; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik; Surfaces and interfaces; Ytor och mellanytor;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with experimental and theoretical studies related to alumina thin films. Alumina, Al2O3, is a polymorphic material utilized in a variety of applications, e.g., in the form of thin films. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nanostructured carbon-based thin films : prediction and design

    Author : Cecilia Goyenola; Gueorgui K. Gueorguiev; Lars Hultman; Sven Stafström; Yury Gogotsi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon; carbon-based; thin films; fullerene-like; modeling; dft;

    Abstract : Carbon-based thin films are a vast group of materials of great technological importance. Thanks to the different bonding options for carbon, a large variety of structures (from amorphous to nanostructured) can be achieved in the process of film synthesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. ZrB2 Thin Films : Growth and Characterization

    Author : Lina Tengdelius; Hans Högberg; Urban Forsberg; Gregory S. Girolami; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Zirconium diboride, ZrB2, is a ceramic material with bulk properties such as high melting point (3245 °C), high hardness (23 GPa), and low resistivity (~8 μΩcm). Thin film growth of ZrB2 using physical vapor deposition has suffered from problems with films deviating from stoichiometry and with high levels of contaminants, especially high oxygen content. Abstract : For quite some time, the strive for more efficient acoustic absorbers keepsincreasing, driven by a number of psycho-physiological studies on health re-lated dangers of noise exposure. As the global wealth increases and with itthe global expectation of quieter living and working environments, manifestedin both politics and research, an important market for sound absorbing andnoise control systems develops in all industrialised countries.
