    Abstract : Abstract [ENG]Proteins govern a multitude of biological functions vital to sustain life. The ability to withstand diseases development and harboring a defense against foreign pathogens is attributed to the wonders of the immune system and the proteins and cells its comprised of. 2. 2. SOD1 misfolding and aggregation in ALS : in the light of conformation-specific antibodies

    Author : Manuela Lehmann; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Stefan L. Marklund; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Elizabeth Fisher; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS; antibodies; SOD1; disordered SOD1; patient-derived models; low oxygen tension; Immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene are linked to the progressive neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-associated mutations affect the stability of the SOD1 protein and promote its unfolding. As a consequence, disordered SOD1 species can misfold and accumulate into insoluble aggregates. READ MORE

    Abstract : Urinary bladder cancer is a heterogeneous disease appearing in different forms, e.g. non-muscle invasive and muscle invasive. For all variants, the expression of proteins is interesting to analyze for diagnostic, predictive, prognostic and drug targeting purposes, since it reflects the altered gene expression causing the cancer. 4. 4. Radiosensitivity in lung cancer with focus on p53

    Author : Michael Bergqvist; Claes Mercke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Lung cancer; comet assay; p53; cDNA; p53 antibodies; Lungcancer; Komet metoden; p53 antikroppar; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : In Sweden approximately 2800 new lung cancer patients are diagnosed every year. Radiotherapy is used with curative intention in certain groups of patients. The aim of this thesis is to study the basis of differences in radioresistance and the possibility to predict response to radiotherapy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Recognition in Antibody Engineering. Studies on recombinant and phage displayed antibodies

    Author : Ann-Christin Malmborg Hager; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []

    Abstract : In vitro generation of antibody fragments of desired specificity and affinity plays an important role since it permits the generation of reagents which may be valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Furthermore, the kinetic parameters for an antibody-antigen interaction, rather than the affinity, has shown to correlate with biological functions like virus neutralization. READ MORE
