1. APOLIPOPROTEIN M
Abstract : Apolipoprotein M (apoM) is composed of 188 amino acids and has an apparent molecular weight of 25 kDa. ApoM belongs to the lipocalin protein superfamily, and is found in all major lipoprotein classes, although the majority of apoM is found in high density lipoprotein, HDL. In apoM, the signal peptide is retained in the mature protein. READ MORE

2. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study
Abstract : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. READ MORE

3. A molecular biological study of Alzheimer's disease : investigation of amyloid precursor protein, amyloid precursor-like protein 2 and presenilin-1
Abstract : The devastating symptoms of Alzheimer's disease result from a progressive regional neurodegenerative process, the cause of which is unknown. Current research suggests that several different mechanisms may be involved, perhaps acting at different points in a common pathological pathway. READ MORE

4. The interplay between lipoproteins, immunity and tryptophan metabolism in atherosclerosis
Abstract : Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Atherosclerosis is initiated by the infiltration and accumulation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the vascular wall, which activates the innate and adaptive arm of immunity, thereby causing chronic vascular inflammation. 5. Apolipoprotein A-I in glucose metabolism and amyloidosis
Abstract : The role of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein component of HDL, in cholesterol transport and metabolism is well known and has been studied for more than four decades. More recently, ApoA-I protein has been shown to also have a positive role in glucose control by both stimulation of glucose uptake by muscles and by increasing glucose-stimulated pancreatic insulin secretion.
