  1. 1. Integrated design and construction for bridges: key aspects and benefits

    Author : Daniel P T Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; industrialized construction; ICT; concurrent engineering; BIM; integrated design; Lean Construction; Integration in construction;

    Abstract : The rate of productivity and innovation capacity within the Swedish construction industry of today is perceived to lead to a poor return of investment within infrastructures. Bridges, are commonly designed for a long service-life, and all stages after realization is greatly dependent on and constrained by decisions made during design and construction of the structure. 2. 2. The Construction of Construction : The Wenner-Gren Center and the possibility of steel building in postwar Sweden

    Author : Frida Rosenberg; Timothy Anstey; Helena Mattsson; Timothy Hyde; KTH; []
    Keywords : architecture history; architecture technology; Wenner-Gren Center; steel; construction; construction sites; architecture practice; prototype; knowledge production; the Swedish Institute of Steel Construction; postwar Sweden; arkitekturhistoria; arkitekturteknik; Wenner-Gren Center; stål; stålkonstruktion; byggplatser; arkitekturpraktik; prototyp; kunskapsproduktion; Stålbyggnadsinstitutet; svensk efterkrigstid; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : The Wenner-Gren Center in Stockholm, built between 1954 and 1966, consists of three buildings dedicated to interdisciplinary and scientific research, designed by Sune Lindström and Alf Bydén of Vattenbyggnadsbyrån (VBB). The project was sponsored by Axel Wenner-Gren, and received support from the Swedish state through the donation of a property at the northern end of Stockholm’s thoroughfare Sveavägen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Early Stage Architectural Design Practice Perspectives on Life Cycle Building Performance Assessment

    Author : Toivo Säwén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Early design stages; Participatory software development; Ethnographic interview; Literature review; Life cycle assessment; Building performance; Architecture;

    Abstract : Architectural practitioners can avoid negative social and environmental impacts of new construction by making decisions supported by impact quantification during design processes. However, most software tools developed for such quantification see little use in practice, especially in early design stages when decisions have the greatest influence. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment and optimization of life cycle enrgy use in buildings

    Author : Farshid Shadram; Thomas Olofsson; Holger Wallbaum; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggproduktion och teknik; Construction Management and Building Technology;

    Abstract : Buildings account for 40% of all energy use in European countries. The European Union (EU) therefore encourages member states to adopt Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) and implement energy-efficient practices during building design to minimize the energy use of buildings. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Architectural Metaphor : Textual Models in Spatial Construction

    Author : Anders Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Architecture; Architectural theory; Model; Metaphor; Narrative; Representation; Trope; Paul Ricoeur; Max Black; Nelson Goodman; Michel de Certeau;

    Abstract : The dissertation concerns the concept of model withinarchitecture, and elaborates particular uses in this field,where modelling is a heuristic process aiming at invention anddiscovery. Methodologically, this is made by introducing thecomparative concepts of metaphor and narrative. READ MORE
