1. Chitosan biopolymer as an adsorbent for drinking water treatment : Investigation on Arsenic and Uranium
Abstract : In many countries over the world (including Sweden), metal toxicity in freshwater resources causes a severe drinking water quality problem and poses a threat to the environment and human health. Among the different toxic metals in the water resources of Sweden, arsenic and uranium are the biggest threats to health. READ MORE

2. Nonmalignant health effects of arsenic exposure
Abstract : This thesis comprises a series of studies concerning occupational and environmental exposure to arsenic and some novel chronic health effects of this element, namely diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Substantial prevalence of the well-known skin manifestations of arsenic ingestion was also found to occur as a result of environmental exposure through drinking water. READ MORE

3. Arsenic (V) adsorption on iron oxide : implications for soil remedeation and water purification
Abstract : Addition of iron oxide based adsorbents to arsenic contaminated soils has been proposed as a mean to reduce the mobility of arsenic in the soil. However, the conditions in the soil such as pH value, the presence of phosphate after addition of fertilizer to the soil or the presence of Zn (II) as a co-contaminant may affect the adsorption of arsenate on the iron oxide and may therefore have implications for the mobility of arsenic in the remediated soil. 4. Approaches to Treatment of Children with Advanced Neuroblastoma
Abstract : Children with advanced neuroblastoma are at high risk for relapse of multidrug resistant disease, despite initial response to intensive multimodality treatment. Neuroblastomas have similarities with immature neuroblasts seen during embryonic development of the sympathetic nervous system (the origin of these tumors). READ MORE

5. Water treatment using cryogel-based adsorbents - Targeting environmental pollutants at low concentrations
Abstract : The lack of safe, clean water is strongly linked to poverty, underdevelopment and poor health. Water is needed not only to sustain life, but to produce food and in industrial processes. Anthropogenic pollution and natural events can jeopardize access to safe water. READ MORE
