  1. 1. Ultrasonic Methods for 2D Arterial Wall Movement Measurements

    Author : Magnus Cinthio; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tissue Doppler imaging; Cardiovascular system; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; Kardiovaskulära systemet; arteries; ultrasound; shear stress; axial movement; radial movement; Arterial distension; Arterial lumen diameter; PWV; Arterial longitudinal movement; pulse-wave velocity;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases constitute the major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western World. To increase our knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to find methods, preferably non-invasive ones, to study very early manifestations of vascular disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Acute, ambulatory and central blood pressure measurements in diabetes

    Author : Magnus Wijkman; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Toste Länne; Jan Östergren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Ambulatory blood pressure; Arterial stiffness; Central blood pressure; Diabetes; Hypertension.;

    Abstract : Background: In patients with diabetes, high blood pressure is an established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The aim of this thesis was to explore the associations between blood pressure levels measured with different techniques and during different circumstances, and the degree of cardiovascular organ damage and subsequent prognosis in patients with diabetes. 3. 3. Testicular blood flow : methodological and functional studies in the rat

    Author : Jan-Erik Damber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Different methods of measuring testicular blood flow in the rat were compared in an attempt to find an accurate method for measuring physiological testicular blood flow. It was found that both the Xenon- 133 clearance technique and the radioactive microsphere technique probably reflect true physiological blood flow in the testis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cerebral Blood Flow and Cognition. Clinical studies on Dementia and Cognitive Decline

    Author : Arkadiusz Siennicki-Lantz; Geriatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gerontology; Gerontologi; vascular risk factors; carotid ultrasound; peripheral arterial disease; orthostatic hypotension; blood pressure; ageing; SPECT; cerebral blood flow; cognition; Dementia; Alzheimer’s disease;

    Abstract : The importance of early detection of brain changes during ageing has been recognised. Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a method used for estimation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) in clinical work and in research. READ MORE

  5. 5. Inflammatory Response in Peripheral Arterial Disease

    Author : Peter Danielsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muskelsystem; reumatologi; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; Skeleton; Polymorphism; Metabolism; Prostacyclin; Microdislysis; Diabetes mellitus; Revascularisation; Angioplasty; Endothelial cells; White blood cells; Inflammation; Peripheral Arterial Disease; muscle system;

    Abstract : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the manifestation of atherosclerotic lesions in arteries supplying blood to the legs. Atherosclerosis is now recognized as an inflammatory disease of the vessel wall and important features in the pathophysiology are activation of WBC, endothelial cells and increased levels of inflammatory mediators.
