1. Development and Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Compounds : Powerful Arylation and Oxidation Reagents
Abstract : The first part of this thesis describes the efficient synthesis of several hypervalent iodine(III) compounds. Electron-rich diaryliodonium salts have been synthesized in a one-pot procedure, employing mCPBA as the oxidant. Both symmetric and unsymmetric diaryliodonium tosylates can be isolated in high yields. READ MORE

2. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Oxidative Carbocyclization : Stereoselective Formation of C–C and C–B Bonds
Abstract : Transition metal catalysis has emerged as one of the most versatile methods for the selective formation of carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bonds. In particular, oxidative carbon–carbon bond forming reactions have been widely studied due to their atom economic feature. READ MORE

3. Metal‐Free Arylations of Oxygen and Nitrogen Nucleophiles : Applications of Diaryliodonium Salts
Abstract : This thesis concerns development of new methods for metal‐free arylations in organic synthesis. The protocols discussed in the thesis are based on a class of hypervalent iodine compounds called diaryliodonium salts. These reagents are known to transfer aryl moieties to suitable nucleophiles. 4. Transition Metal Mediated Transformations of Carboranes
Abstract : This thesis describes the use of copper and palladium to mediate transformations of carboranes, especially p-carborane.1-(1-p-carboranyl)-N-methyl-N-(2-butyl)-3-isoquinolinecarboxamide, a carborane containing analogue of the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor (PBR) ligand PK11195, has been synthesised. 5. Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Oxidative Cyclization Strategies : Selective Formation of New C-C and C-N Bonds
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis has been directed towards preparation and oxidative carbocyclization of en-, dien- and aza-enallenes.In the first part of this thesis, a stereoselective oxidative carbocyclization of dienallenes was realized. READ MORE
