  1. 1. Ultrasound assessment of carotid atherosclerosis focusing on plaque characteristics and changes over time

    Author : Ulrica Prahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Ultrasound; Carotid artery; Women; Plaques; Echogenicity; Atherosclerosis;

    Abstract : In a clinical perspective better methods to identify subjects at increased cardiovascular risk are needed. Atherosclerotic plaques of the carotid arteries with low echogenicity have been related to future clinical events. READ MORE

    Abstract : Throughout the last century, medical imaging has come to revolutionise the way we diagnose disease, and is today an indispensable part of virtually any clinical practice. In cardiovascular care imaging is extensively utilised, and the development of novel techniques promises refined diagnostic abilities: ultrasound elastography allows for constitutive tissue assessment, 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables full-field flow mapping, and micro-Computed Tomography (CT) permits high-resolution imaging at pre-clinical level. 3. 3. Observation Methods and Imaging Techniques. Assessments of physical exposure in repetitive work with focus on neck and upper extremities

    Author : Birgit Juul-Kristensen; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; imaging techniques; force; electromyography; video recording; electrogoniometer; inclinometer; movement; posture; physical exposure; industrial work; repetitive; upper extremity; neck; observation method; musculoskeletal; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; industrial medicine; Occupational health; epidemiology; ultrasound; magnetic resonance;

    Abstract : Observation methods and imaging techniques - assessments of physical exposure in repetitive work with focus on neck and upper extremities The aim of this thesis was to develop, establish and validate observation methods for exposure assessments in epidemiological studies of repetitive work. A second aim was to increase the quality of input data for biomechanical shoulder models, by reliability and validity studies of Magnetic Reso-nance Imaging (MRI) and Ultrasound Scanning (US). 4. 4. Fluid dynamic principles for analysis of intracranial pressure control : application towards space medicine and hydrocephalus

    Author : Petter Holmlund; Anders Eklund; Sara Qvarlander; Jan Malm; Marek Czosnyka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intracranial pressure; posture; cerebrospinal fluid; microgravity; venous collapse; internal jugular vein; fluid dynamics; venous pressure; spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome; hydrocephalus; mathematical modeling; ultrasound; magnetic resonance imaging;

    Abstract : Intracranial pressure (ICP) is an important component of the fluid dynamic environment of the brain and plays a central role with regards to the maintenance of normal cerebral blood flow and neuronal function. However, many regulatory mechanisms controlling the ICP are still poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Blood flow specific assessment of ventricular function : Visualization and quantification using 4D flow CMR

    Author : Alexandru Grigorescu Fredriksson; Carljohan Carlhäll; Bengt Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The spectrum of cardiovascular diseases is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Early assessment and treatment of these conditions, acquired as well as congenital, is therefore of paramount importance. The human heart has a great ability to adapt to various hemodynamic conditions by cardiac remodeling.
