  1. 1. Approaches to Species Delineation in Anamorphic (mitosporic) Fungi : A Study on Two Extreme Cases

    Author : Olga Vinnere; Siv Andersson; Jamshid Fatehi; Berndt Gerhardson; Stephen B. Goodwin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; fungal taxonomy; Colletotrichum acutatum; Mycelia Sterilia; Phoma; Campanella; phylogeny; species concept in fungi; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Since the beginning of mycology, studies of species concept in fungi have been mainly based on morphology, partially due to the history of mycology as part of botany. Current advances in biochemical and molecular research have provided mycologists with powerful tools that can be used for delineation of fungal taxa. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Role of Proteases in Plant Development

    Author : Maribel Garcia-Lorenzo; Christiane Funk; Zach Adam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comparative genomics; protease; PCD; leaf senescence; FtsH; Arabidopsis; Populus; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteases play key roles in plants, maintaining strict protein quality control and degrading specific sets of proteins in response to diverse environmental and developmental stimuli. Similarities and differences between the proteases expressed in different species may give valuable insights into their physiological roles and evolution. READ MORE

  3. 3. The novel sources of the neurotoxin BMAA in aquatic environments

    Author : Sandra Lage; Sara Jonasson Rydberg; Ulla Rasmussen; Ann-Sofi Rehnstam-Holm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; β-N-methylamino-L-alanine; diatoms; dinoflagellates; shellfish; cockles; PST; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : Neurotoxinet β -N-metylamino -L-alanin (BMAA) anses vara en potentiell miljöriskfaktor för utvecklingen av den neurodegenerativa sjukdomen amyotrofisk lateralskleros (ALS) och har en potentiell roll i flertalet andra neurodegenerativa sjukdomar. Sedan 2003, då det upptäcktes att BMAA produceras av den symbiotiska cyanobakterien Nostoc punctiforme  har flera andra BMAA producerande cyanobakteriearter identifierats. READ MORE

  4. 4. Methods to measure mass transfer kinetics, partition ratios and atmospheric fluxes of organic chemicals in forest systems

    Author : Damien Johann Bolinius; Annika Jahnke; Matthew MacLeod; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrophobic organic chemicals; vegetation; modified Bowen ratio; surface-atmosphere fluxes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Vegetation plays an important role in the partitioning, transport and fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) in the environment. This thesis aimed at addressing two key knowledge gaps in our understanding of how plants exchange HOCs with the atmosphere: (1) To improve our understanding of the uptake of HOCs into, and transfer through, leaves of different plant species which can significantly influence the transport and fate of HOCs in the environment; and (2) To evaluate an experimental approach to measure fluxes of HOCs in the field. 5. 5. Chloride-based Silicon Carbide CVD

    Author : Henrik Pedersen; Erik Janzén; Anne Henry; Yaroslav Koshka; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising material for high power and high frequency devices due to its wide bandgap, high break down field and high thermal conductivity. The most established technique for growth ofepitaxial layers of SiC is chemical vapor deposition (CVD) at around 1550 °C using silane, SiH4, and lighthydrocarbons e g propane, C3H8, or ethylene, C2H4, as precursors heavily diluted in hydrogen.
