1. Analysis of risk factors in patients with severe chronic kidney disease. The role of atorvastatin
Abstract : Background and aim: There had been no randomized end-point studies with statins for patients with severe renal failure. The purpose of this prospective, open, randomized, controlled study was to investigate whether atorvastatin (10 mg/day) would alter cardiovascular end-points and the overall mortality rate of patients with chronic kidney disease stage 4 or 5 (creatinine clearanceMaterial & Methods: This was an open, prospective, randomized study. 2. Atrial fibrillation : treatment, associated conditions and quantification of symptoms
Abstract : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia. There is a need for new pharmacological treatment strategies since the current antiarrhythmic drugs have a modest efficacy and may have severe side effects. Cardioversion (CV) of AF offers an opportunity to study related conditions in sinus rhythm (SR) and during AF. READ MORE

3. Pharmacological stimulation of endothelial function and long-term impact of hypertension in man
Abstract : Background: Ischemic heart disease is a major cause of death globally. Rupture of a coronary atherosclerotic plaque with occluding thrombus formation is the main cause of myocardial ischemia and infarction. READ MORE

4. In vitro and in silico Predictions of Hepatic Transporter-Mediated Drug Clearance and Drug-Drug Interactions in vivo
Abstract : The liver is the major detoxifying organ, clearing the blood from drugs and other xenobiotics. The extent of hepatic clearance (CL) determines drug exposure and hence, the efficacy and toxicity associated with exposure. Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) that alter the hepatic CL may cause more or less severe outcomes, such as adverse drug reactions. READ MORE

5. Postprandial lipaemia and its relation to premature atherosclerosis in middle-aged men
Abstract : The present research programme was set up to investigate whether pertubations of the metabolism of postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) are related to premature atherosclerosis and to determine if treatment with a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (atorvastatin) improves deranged alimentary lipaemia in postinfarction patients with combined hyperlipidaemia. The relation between plasma insulin and alimentary lipaemia was investigated as well. READ MORE
