  1. 1. Effect of surface characteristics on cellular adherence and activity

    Author : Marjan Dorkhan; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacteria; microbial biofilm; dental implant; streptococci; oral bacteria; salivary pellicle; early colonizers; titanium oxide; microbial activity; oral keratinocytes; gingival fibroblasts; cell attachment; surface modification; anodic oxidation; anatase;

    Abstract : Ersättning av förlorade tänder med tandimplantat är numera en vanlig behandlingsmetod med generellt goda resultat. Antalet implantatsystem på den internationella marknaden har ökat kraftigt under senare år. READ MORE

  2. 2. Responses to External Cues in Oral Bacteria

    Author : Carolina Robertsson; Claes Wickström; Gunnel Svensäter; Julia R Davies; Mattias Collin; Malmö universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis investigates responses to external cues in oral bacteria on a molecular level. Paper I maps Ser/Thr/Tyr phosphorylated proteins in relation to the general proteome in an oral commensal streptococcus (Streptococcus gordonii DL1). READ MORE

  3. 3. Porphyrins and heme in microorganisms : Porphyrin content and its relation to phototherapy and antimicrobial treatments in vivo and in vitro

    Author : Jonas Fyrestam; Conny Östman; Jonas Bergquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porphyrins; heme; phototherapy; antimicrobial resistance; singlet oxygen; photosensitizer; bacteria; HPLC-MS MS; oral bacteria; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Escherichia coli; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : One of the greatest threats to human health is increasing antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, and finding alternatives for treatment of bacterial infections is of highest importance together with a more controlled use of antibiotics. Porphyrins and heme have both been shown to be a promising class of compounds for inactivation of bacteria; porphyrins by their excellent properties to act as a photosensitizer, and heme by its importance as an iron source during a bacterial infection in vertebrates. 4. 4. Porphyrins and phototherapy of oral bacteria

    Author : Nadja Bjurshammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the mid-1990s researchers became interesting in blue light-based therapies using light-emitting diodes (LED) light. Blue light therapy has been successfully used in treatment of acne, as well as shown wound healing effects. It has also shown significant antibacterial effects, especially on black-pigmented bacteria. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lactobacillus characterization and effects on oral biofilm composition

    Author : Nelly Romani Vestman; Ingegerd Johansson; Jukka Meurman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus; L. gasseri; probiotic traits; oral biofilm; breastfeeding; oral microbiota; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : The human body is home for millions of bacteria. The largest microbial community is located in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract, including the oral cavity with >700 identified taxa. Lactobacillus, which is normal inhabitant of the GI tract, contributes to health by possible biofilm and immune modulation. READ MORE
