  1. 11. Genomic Diversity and Evolution of Parasitism in Nematode-trapping Fungi

    Author : Dag Ahrén; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; nematode-trapping fungi; expressed sequence tags; functional genomics; bioinformatics; parasitism; Genomic diversity; Evolution; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil-living organisms that have the ability to form infection structures, traps to capture nematodes. Many nematode species are parasites on plants and animals, which have resulted in an interest to use the nematode-trapping fungi as biological control agents. READ MORE

  2. 12. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection

    Author : Mustafa Akkoyunlu; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; bactericidal assay; mucosal immunity; otitis media; vaccine; H. influenzae; protein D; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. READ MORE

  3. 13. Redox balancing in recombinant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Mikael Anderlund; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; xylose isomerase; xylitol dehydrogenase; xylose reductase; glycerol; xylitol; xylose; E. coli; A. vinelandii; T. thermophilus; S. cerevisiae; P. stipitis; transhydrogenase.; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : In metabolically engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing Pichia stipitis XYL1 and XYL2 genes, encoding xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), respectively, xylitol is excreted as the major product during anaerobic xylose fermentation and only low yields of ethanol are produced. This has been interpreted as a result of the dual cofactor dependence of XR and the exclusive use of NAD+ by XDH. READ MORE

  4. 14. Distribution and Effects of NO and CO in the Human Upper Respiratory Tract

    Author : Jens Andersson; Helsingborg Kliniska Vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; transplantation; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; Immunology; sinus; upper respiratory tract infection; nose; nitric oxide; neutrophil migration; middle ear; hemin; flow cytometry; allergy; carbon monoxide;

    Abstract : Mucosal inflammation and airway hyperreactivity are regulated by hundreds of different mediators. The recent discovery of gaseous mediators, produced and active within the airways, opens new possibilities for identification of therapeutic targets and ways to monitor airway inflammation. 5. 15. Human Endogenous Retroviruses: Expression and Evolutionary Relationships

    Author : Marie-Louise Andersson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; bakteriologi; expression; transcription; reverse transcriptase; HERV; phylogeny; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The human genome contains genetic elements which are more or less similar to infectious retroviruses. These are called human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) and are thought to be remnants of infections in the primate lineage. READ MORE
