  1. 1. Time-related Aspects of Otoprotection : Experimental Studies in Rat

    Author : Adnan Lidian; Matti Anniko; Petri Olivius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : sensorineural hearing loss; Edaravone; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; auditory brainstem response; Sprague-Dawley rat; distortion product otoacoustic emission; Pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxin A.; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Intratympanic injection of various otoprotectants through the round window membrane (RWM) might become available in the near future as an alternative to the currently available medical and surgical methods used to treat several inner ear diseases. The most common outcome of such diseases is sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). READ MORE

  2. 2. Decompression strain during long-duration, high-altitude exposures : Effects of intermittent excursions to moderate altitude and inspired fractions of oxygen

    Author : Rickard Ånell; Ola Eiken; Mikael Gennser; Mikael Grönkvist; Ole Hyldegaard; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Teknik och hälsa; Technology and Health;

    Abstract : Today´s tactical demands and new technical solutions in fighter aircraft entail longer exposure periods at higher altitudes than before. A low cabin pressure protects pilots from pulmonary barotrauma in case of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, however it can also generate a supersaturation of nitrogen (N2) in the tissues, increasing the risks of bubble formation and decompression sickness (DCS). 3. 3. Lung function after cardiac surgery : With special reference to atelectasis and ventilation-perfusion relationships

    Author : Arne Tenling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Cardiac surgery; thoracic epidural analgesia; vital capacity manoeuvre; computed tomography; ventilation-perfusion relationships; gas exchange; atelectasis; respiratory inductive plethysmography; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Patients undergoing cardiac surgery were investigated before and after the operation.Ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) relationships were examined by the multiple inert gas elimination method, and atelectasis and aeration of the lungs were examined by computedtomography (CT). READ MORE

  4. 4. New modes of improving ventilation and oxygenation in pulmonary hypertension and acute respiratory failure in newborns and children

    Author : Sylvia Göthberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inhaled nitric oxide; high frequency oscillatory ventilation; partial liquid ventilation; respiratory inductive plethysmography; follow-up study; pulmonary hypertension; congenital heart disease; acute respiratory failure; respiratory distress syndrome; persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn.;

    Abstract : Pulmonary hypertension leading to hypoxemia is a potentially life-threatening condition in pediatric intensive care. Hypoxemia may also result from conditions not primarily related to pulmonary hypertension. READ MORE
