  1. 1. Complex Formation in the Extra Cellular Matrix- Structural Study of CTLD of Agrrecan, Tenascin-R and Chondroadherin

    Author : Anna Pramhed; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aggrecan; ECM; fibulin; structure; tenascin; CHAD; chondroadherin; X-ray; crystallography; calcium; CTLD; C-type lectin; fibronectin; FnIII; LRR; epidermal growth factor; leucine-rich repeat; matrix; EGF; cbEGF;

    Abstract : The cells of higher organisms exist in a complex protein network, the extracellular matrix (ECM), which has a wide variety of different components such as glycoproteins, proteoglycans and carbohydrates. As well as being the physical scaffold on which the cells are dependent for their positioning and mobility, the ECM exercises control over the cells, and changes in the matrix will affect the adhesion, proliferation and differentiation properties of these cells. 2. 2. Inference of Hierarchical Structure in Complex Systems

    Author : Olof Görnerup; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein evolution; Substitution groups; Modularity; Hierarchical dynamics; RNA world; Genetic code; Aggregation; Primordial evolution; Molecular evolution; Model reduction; Self-organization; Lumping; Emergence; Coarse graining;

    Abstract : Hierarchical organization is a central property of complex systems. It is even argued that a system is required to be hierarchical in order to evolve complexity within reasonable time. A hierarchy of a system is defined as the set of self-contained levels at which the system operates and can be described on. READ MORE

  3. 3. Intermolecular interactions in hydrogen bonded 1:1 molecular complexes. A matrix isolation study

    Author : Anders Engdahl; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; infrared laser irradiation; dimethyl ether; water dimer; hydrogen chloride; formamide; acetone; formic acid; ammonia; water; intermolecular; matrix isolation; FIR; FTIR; infrared; isomerisation; ab initio; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : A number of matrix isolated binary hydrogen bonded complexes with water as one of the components have been investigated with FTIR in the mid and far infrared regions. Water has been found to be the hydrogen bond donor in complexes with water, ammonia, dimethyl ether and acetone. READ MORE

  4. 4. Decellularized liver extracellular matrix as a 3D scaffold for bioengineering applications

    Author : Vamakshi Khati; Aman Russom; Håkan Jönsson; Giulia Gaudenzi; Ana Teixeira; KTH; []

    Abstract : The increasing global burden of end-stage liver disease has increased the need for liver transplantation, the definitive cure. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of available organ donors and the number of patients waiting for transplantation, resulting in the deaths of a significant number of patients on the waiting list as only 10% of the global need for transplantation is met. 5. 5. Glycosaminoglycan Biosynthesis and Function in Zebrafish Development : Sugars Shaping Skeletons

    Author : Judith Habicher; Johan Ledin; Per Erik Ahlberg; Marion Kusche-Gullberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) and chondroitin/dermatan sulfate (CS/DS) proteoglycans are glycosylated proteins with important roles in animal development and homeostasis. HS and CS/DS are long, linear glycosaminoglycan (GAG) polysaccharides and attached to a core protein they form proteoglycans. READ MORE
