1. On dental ceramics and their fracture : a laboratory and numerical study
Abstract : Background Surface treatments and irregularities in the surfaces may affect the fracture of ceramics. The effects of various treatments on the surface texture of different types of ceramic cores/substructures was therefore qualitatively, quantitatively and numerically evaluated. READ MORE

2. Micromechanics of softwoods in the transverse plane : effects on cell and annual ring scales
Abstract : Transverse mechanical properties of wood are important in many practial applications and an interesting scientific subject. A very low transverse shear modulus has been identified in spruce, which causes large strain concentrations in wood structures. READ MORE

3. Management of forest biomass terminals
Abstract : Terminals and log-yards are becoming increasingly important in Nordic forest supply chains because of the need to support the rising production capacity of pulp mills and heat and power plants. Most modern terminals and log-yards handle multiple assortments, must accommodate multiple incoming and outgoing modes of transport, and have multiple storage areas. READ MORE

4. Decellularized liver extracellular matrix as a 3D scaffold for bioengineering applications
Abstract : The increasing global burden of end-stage liver disease has increased the need for liver transplantation, the definitive cure. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the number of available organ donors and the number of patients waiting for transplantation, resulting in the deaths of a significant number of patients on the waiting list as only 10% of the global need for transplantation is met. 5. Structure and Dynamics of Hydrated Biopolymers
Abstract : Hydrated polysaccharide systems primarily using xylans along with mutans and alternans were studied using long atomistic simulations over a few microseconds to analyse structure-function relationships and nanoscale interactions with moisture. The influence of various structural and chemical factors such as alignment, nature of glycosidic linkage, effect of moisture / chemical substitutions was explored with a focus on structure-dynamics correlations to aid in the effective functionalisation of biomaterials for the development of a green, circular bioeconomy.
