1. Closed-loop strategy for valorization of starch : From starch to functionalized starch biomaterials and bioplastics
Abstract : The desire to utilize renewable resources and avoid wastes drives us to develop new concepts for material design. Non-edible starch feedstocks and starch bioplastic wastes were previously considered useless. READ MORE

2. Mesoporous Implants for Localized Controlled Drug Delivery
Abstract : The use of bone-anchored implants is today a routine treatment for patients with normal regenerative capacity. However, there is an ongoing development within implant research to improve the osseointegration of implants. READ MORE

3. Novel non-collagenous modulators of biomineralization in bone and dentin
Abstract : The formation of mineralized tissues such as bones and teeth is governed on many levels by molecular, genetic, and cellular events to culminate in terminally differentiated cells that secrete a specialized organic matrix, which is later mineralized through the coordinated deposition of calcium phosphate crystals. The formation of this hard tissue phase is tightly regulated by components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), since deviations from this equilibrium result in prevalent, debilitating health problems such as arthritis, vascular calcification, periodontal disease and osteoporosis. 4. Studies on three matrix molecules in bone and dentin
Abstract : The biomineralization of bone and dentin is a complex and dynamic process, involving the formation of an organic framework in which mineral crystals are deposited. The noncollagenous proteins (NCPs) of the organic phase play a central role in the extracellular matrix (ECM) organization and mineralization regulation. READ MORE

5. Hyaluronan Based Biomaterials with Imaging Capacity for Tissue Engineering
Abstract : This thesis presents the preparation of hyaluronan-based biomaterials with imaging capability and their application as scaffolds in tissue engineering. First, we have synthesized HA derivatives functionalized with different chemoselective groups. READ MORE
