  1. 1. Vegetation and climate during Weichselian ice free intervals in northern Sweden : Interpretations from fossil and modern pollen records

    Author : Martina Hättestrand; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Donatella Magri; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Weichselian; interstadial; stadial; glacial history; northern Sweden; Tärendö; Riipiharju; Rissejauratj; Veiki moraine; pollen analysis; pollen deposition; pollen trap; PAR; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the Weichselian history of northern Sweden is investigated, with emphasis on vegetation and climate during ice-free intervals. The main method used has been pollen analysis of sediments from pre-Late Weichselian landforms. To interpret fossil pollen assemblages, comparisons with modern pollen spectra were made. READ MORE

  2. 2. Immunotherapy of children with rhinoconjunctivitis due to birch pollinosis

    Author : Christian Möller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Birch pollinosis; Conjunctival provocation test; Crossed radioimmunoelectrophoresis; Crossreactivity tree pollens; Immunotherapy; Oral immunotherapy; Polyethyleneglycol absorption; Pollen counts; Rhinoconjunctivitis; Symptom score;

    Abstract : In this investigation of immunotherapy (IT) children 6-16 years old with rhinoconjunctivitis due to birch pollinosis were included.I. Methodological studies. To monitor IT a reliable provocation test is desirable. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immunological mechanisms involved in seasonal pollen allergy and allergen-specific immunotherapy

    Author : Robert Movérare; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Allergy; birch pollen; IFN-g; IgE; IgG; IgG4; IL-4; IL-5; IL-10; IL-13; immunotherapy; PBMC; rush immunotherapy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Th1/Th2-like T-cell responses were studied by stimulating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with allergens or antigens followed by restimulation with mitogens to induce high cytokine synthesis. Allergen-stimulation in vitro induced Th2-skewed cytokine synthesis by PBMCs from birch-pollen-allergic patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Food allergy in adults

    Author : Georgios K. Rentzos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal allergy; asthma; birch pollen; prevalence; peanut allergy; basophil activation test;

    Abstract : The knowledge on adverse reactions to foods and the spectrum of food-related gastrointestinal symptoms in relation to allergy in adults is still scarce. The conventional allergy tests do not always offer with precision an accurate diagnosis in case of suspicious food allergy and therefore patients often need to be investigated further with oral food challenge or even intestinal biopsy. 5. 5. Reproductive patterns of birches (Betula spp.) in northern Sweden

    Author : Stig-Olov Holm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reproduction; Betula; seed-quality; seed-set; pollination; pollen-limitation; pollen-competition; tree-line; environmental gradient; seed weight; seedling survival; Semudobia;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study patterns of reproduction of Betula pendula and B. pubescens coll. along an altitudinal, coastal-inland, gradient in northern Sweden. The altitudinal variation was related to the distribution of the birch taxa along the gradient. READ MORE
