  1. 1. Acute Confusional State in Elderly Patients with Hip Fracture. Identification of risk factors and intervention using a prehospital and perioperative management program

    Author : Karin Björkman Björkelund; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postoperative confusion; mortality; pain; fasting; hypoxemia; complications; ASA; Anemia; transfusion.; anesthesia;

    Abstract : Abstract The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about underlying causes and perioperative risk factors of Acute Confusional State (ACS) in elderly patients with hip fracture and to investigate the effect of a multi-factorial intervention program in order to decrease the number of patients who develop ACS. The aim in paper I was to describe elderly patients with hip fracture on the basis of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ ASA classification system and to identify preoperative risk factors in relation to the postoperative outcome measured up to 4-months after surgery. 2. 2. Quantitative equilibrium calculations on systems with relevance to copper smelting and converting

    Author : Bo Björkman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Assessment of silicate systems; model for liquid silicates; lead silicates; iron silicates; cuprous silicates; quantitative equi¬librium calculations; emf measurements; Gibbs free energy; cup¬rous sulphide; dicalcium ferrite; wüstite-calcia solid solution; copper smelting and converting;

    Abstract : The present thesis gives a summary of results obtained through theoretical and experimental studies of systems with relevance to copper smelting and converting.Many chemical elements are involved in the copper production processes and a detailed experimental study would be very time- consuming and expensive. 3. 3. Validity and reliability of a submaximal cycle ergometer test for estimation of maximal oxygen uptake

    Author : Frida Maria Eleonora Björkman; Örjan Ekblom; Tony Bohman; Åsa Tornberg; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Abstract : Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is the highest obtained rate of oxygen consumption during a physically intense dynamic whole-body activity. VO2max is an important factor for many types of physical performance, as well as a strong independent predictor of health and longevity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Network overload avoidance by traffic engineering and content caching

    Author : Henrik Abrahamsson; Mats Björkman; Bengt Ahlgren; Luca Muscariello; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : The Internet traffic volume continues to grow at a great rate, now driven by video and TV distribution. For network operators it is important to avoid congestion in the network, and to meet service level agreements with their customers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Palaeoenvironment in North-Western Romania during the last 15 000 years

    Author : Angelica Feurdean; Barbara Wohlfarth; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Leif Björkman; Iustinian Petrescu; Katherine J Willis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Northwest Romania; Gutaiului Mountains; pollenstratigraphy; macrofossil remains; Lateglacial; Holocene; tree refugia; tree dynamics; past climate; human influence;

    Abstract : The objectives of this thesis are to establish a chronological framework for environmental changes during the last 15,000 years in northwest Romania, to reconstruct the vegetation development, and to evaluate the underlying processes for forest dynamics. Furthermore, an overview of earlier and ongoing pollenstratigraphic work in Romania is provided. READ MORE
