  1. 1. Block stability analysis using deterministic and probabilistic methods

    Author : Mehdi Bagheri; Håkan Stille; Charlie C. Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Block stability analysis; Model uncertainty; Joint relaxation; Partial factor; Sensitivity analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a discussion of design tools for analysing block stability around a tunnel. First, it was determined that joint length and field stress have a significant influence on estimating block stability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mass Stabilization, Stability and Settlement in Mass Stabilized Peat

    Author : Nenad Jelisic; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mass stabilization; stabilizer; field investigations; laboratory investigations; settlement; stability; peat; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Peat is badly suited as a base for road and railway embankments due to its geotechnical properties. The usual procedure has been, therefore, to excavate peat and replace it with blasted rock. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional appliance treatment and stability in Class II/1 malocclusion, and masticatory muscle characteristics

    Author : Gregory Antonarakis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Class II malocclusion; functional appliances; masticatory muscles; stability; ultrasonography; bite force;

    Abstract : Aims: To evaluate the short-term antero-posterior effects on Class II division 1 malocclusion in growing children using functional appliances, and investigate whether the functional capacity of the masticatory musculature can be used as a predictive variable in determining the treatment and post-treatment effects following functional appliance treatment. Material and Methods: Firstly, a literature search was carried out identifying prospective clinical trials on the treatment of Class II malocclusion using functional appliances or/and headgear in growing children. 4. 4. Mixed Block Copolymer Solutions: Self-Assembly and Interactions

    Author : Solmaz Bayati; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polymer; Block Copolymer; PEO-PPO-PEO; Pluronics©; Bile Salt; NaGDC; PNIPAAM; PAMPTMA; PAMPS; Mixed Micelle; Self-Assembly; Mixed Complexes;

    Abstract : This thesis incorporates studies on the aqueous systems of two types of thermoresponsive amphiphilic block copolymers; a series of nonionic triblock copolymers comprising blocks of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) denoted as PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers, and a series of ionic diblock copolymers consisting of one charged block and one block of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM). Various techniques, such as dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS), small angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS and SANS), high sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry (HSDSC), turbidimetry, electrophoretic mobility measurements, and two-dimensional proton NMR nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (2D 1H NMR NOESY), were applied to study these block copolymer systems. 5. 5. Model uncertainty of design tools to analyze block stability

    Author : Mehdi Bagheri; Håkan Stille; Mats Holmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Block failure is one of the most common failure modes in tunnels. Design tools have some simplifications and, therefore, they also have some model uncertainties. The purpose of this licentiate thesis is to assess the model uncertainty for different design tools in order to estimate block stability. READ MORE
