  1. 1. Liquid-Jet-Target Microfocus X-Ray Sources : Electron Guns, Optics and Phase-Contrast Imaging

    Author : Tomi Tuohimaa; Hans M. Hertz; Stephen Wilkins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electron-impact; x-ray; brightness; liquid-jet-target; phase-contrast imaging; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : This Thesis describes the development of an electron-impact microfocus x-ray source and its application for phase-contrast imaging. The source is based on a novel, liquid-jet target concept. Stable and continuous operation can be achieved at substantially higher electron-beam power densities than conventional solid target based systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Prediction of wood species and pulp brightness from roundwood measurements

    Author : David Nilsson; Ulf Edlund; Michael Sjöström; Olav Kvalheim; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Design of Experiments; ISO brightness; Multivariate Image Analysis; Multivariate Modelling; NIR spectroscopy; Norway spruce; PCA; PLS; Roundwood; Scots pine; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a number of studies, where a multivariate approach was taken to construct models that predict wood species and thermo mechanical pulp brightness from roundwood of Norway spruce and Scots pine. The first and second studies produced multivariate prediction models for wood species from the bark of spruce and pine. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of acid hydrogen peroxide treatment on refining energy and TMP properties

    Author : Karin Walter; Per Engstrand; Magnus Paulsson; Lennart Salmén; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TMP; Black Spruce; Energy reduction; Hydrogen peroxide; Ferrous sulphate; Refining; Inter-stage treatment; Pulp and paper properties; Fenton´s reagent; Bleaching; Sodium dithionite; Brightness; Metals; Fibre dimensions; Cross-sectional dimensions; Chemical composition; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : The potential of using acid hydrogen peroxide under Fenton conditions to lower the electrical energy consumed during the production of Black spruce (Picea mariana) thermomechanical pulp (TMP) was investigated. The chemical system, which consisted of ferrous sulphate, hydrogen peroxide and optionally an enhancer (3,4-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or oxalic acid/sodium oxalate), was evaluated as an inter-stage treatment where the primary refiner was used as a mixer. Abstract : In the production of paper, the quality of the pulp is an important factor both for the productivity and for the final quality. Reliable real-time measurements of pulp quality are therefore needed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Daylight compliance of multi-dwelling apartment blocks : Design considerations, evaluation criteria and occupant responses

    Author : Iason Bournas; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; daylight; electric lighting; policy; regulation compliance; simulation; questionnaire; daylight metrics; perception; brightness; user preferences; urban density; block typology; room geometry; room function; room orientation;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the daylight compliance of residential spaces, in particular apartments in multi-dwelling building blocks, and provides knowledge that may prove useful for the development of future daylight criteria for dwellings. The implications of design choices on daylight compliance of spaces and the effect of daylight criteria on the level of compliance are at the core of this work. READ MORE
