  1. 1. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Author : Jim Hedfors; Veijo Pohjola; Else Kolstrup; Niels Reeh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 2. 2. Air-Sea Fluxes of CO2 : Analysis Methods and Impact on Carbon Budget

    Author : Maria Norman; Anna Rutgersson; Erik Sahlée; William Drennan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-sea exchange; carbon dioxide; Baltic Sea; eddy-covariance method; inertial dissipation method; cospectral-peak method; Baltic Sea measurements; CO2 fluxes; Galathea 3 expedition; Baltic Sea modeling; water-side convection; coastal upwelling; carbon budget; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important greenhouse gas, and the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has increased by more than 100 ppm since prior to the industrial revolution.  The global oceans are considered an important sink of atmospheric CO2, since approximately one third of the anthropogenic emissions are absorbed by the oceans. 3. 3. Essays in Macroeconomics and Political Economy

    Author : Mathias Pronin; Anna Seim; Annika Alexius; Jesper Lindé; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Monetary Policy; House Prices; Bayesian Estimation; Wealth Distribution; Heterogeneous Preferences; Political Budget Cycles; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract :     The Response of the Riksbank to House Prices in SwedenIn the aftermath of the recent financial crisis, an environment of historically low interest rates and extensive household indebtedness in the OECD countries have triggered a vivid debate on whether central banks should react to house-price fluctuations in their pursuit of monetary policy. In Sweden, a period of low policy rates and house-price inflation was halted when the central bank increased the interest rates in 2010. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cost-optimality approach for prioritisation of buildings envelope energy renovation : A techno-economic perspective

    Author : Farshid Bonakdar; Angela Sasic Kalagasidis; Keith Jones; Linnéuniversitetet; []

    Abstract : The existing residential buildings in the European countries are rather old and often fail to meet the current energy performance criteria. In Sweden, about 45% of the existing residential buildings have been constructed before 1960. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distribution and activity of nitrogen-fixing bacteria in marine and estuarine waters

    Author : Hanna Farnelid; Lasse Riemann; Jonathan Zehr; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 454-pyrosequencing; diazotrophs; heterotrophic bacteria; marine bacteria; marine microbial ecology; microbiology; nifH; nitrogenase; nitrogen fixation; PCR; qPCR; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In aquatic environments the availability of nitrogen (N) generally limits primary production. N2-fixing prokaryotes (diazotrophs) can convert N2 gas into ammonium and provide significant input of N into the oceans. Cyanobacteria are thought to be the main N2-fixers but diazotrophs also include a wide range of heterotrophic bacteria. READ MORE
