  1. 1. Transcriptional regulation of the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 1 gene in latent and lytic stages of infection

    Author : Henrik Zetterberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Epstein-Barr virus; EBNA1; Burkitt s lymphoma; nasopharyngeal carcinoma; ; B-lymphocyte; transformation; transcriptional regulation;

    Abstract : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a lymphotropic herpesvirus that infects more than 90% of humans worldwide. The virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis, a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disorder, and is also associated with a variety of malignancies including Burkitt's lymphoma (BL), Hodgkin's disease (HD), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), and lymphoproliferative disorders in immunocompromised individuals. 2. 2. Malaria, B lymphocytes and Epstein-Barr virus : emerging concepts on Burkitt's lymphoma pathogenesis

    Author : Daria Donati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; B lymphocytes; polyclonal activation; hypergammaglobulenemia; EpsteinBarr virus; endemic Burkitt s lymphoma.;

    Abstract : Plasmodium falciparum and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections are recognized co-factors in the genesis of endemic Burkitt's Lymphoma (eBL), the most common paediatric cancer in equatorial Africa. This thesis work examines and discusses interactions between Pfalciparum and EBV that could promote the emergence of eBL. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma

    Author : Teresa Frisan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Epstein-Barr virus; tumor immune escape; antigen presentation; cytotoxic T lymphocytes;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of latent EBV genes in the induction of genomic instability in Burkitt’s lymphoma

    Author : Bettina Gruhne; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Epidemiological and molecular evidence link Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection to a variety of lymphoid and epithelial malignancies but the contribution of the virus to tumorigenesis is unclear. Genomic instability, defined by the establishment of a mutator phenotype and characterized by the occurrence of non-clonal chromosomal aberrations, excessive DNA damage and defects in DNA repair, is the hallmark of malignant transformation. 5. 5. Impact of malaria on B-cell homeostasis and Epstein-Barr virus reactivation : endemic Burkitt's lymphoma pathogenesis

    Author : Arnaud Chêne; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Over recent years, the concept that many diseases can be aetiologically linked to infection by more than one pathogen has gained increased attention and awareness. Plasmodium falciparum (P. READ MORE
