  1. 1. Gene expression and regeneration in ophiuroids: A study of transcriptional activity and regeneration in the temperate Amphiura filiformis and Antarctic Ophionotus victoriae

    Author : Gavin Burns; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; echinoderm; regeneration; ophiuroid; gene expression; antarctica;

    Abstract : Regeneration, in which lost or damaged tissues are re-grown, is a common phenomenon amongst animals and especially so within the ophiuroids (brittle stars) of the phylum echinodermata. The process of regeneration begins with the injury event followed by a period of cell and tissue reorganization which results in wound healing and tissue re-growth. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stability and control of shear flows subject to stochastic excitations

    Author : Jérôme Hoepffner; Dan Henningson; John Burns; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; control; estimation; stochastic excitations; feedback; model reduction; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we adapt and apply methods from linear control theory to shear flows. The challenge of this task is to build a linear dynamic system that models the evolution of the flow, using the Navier--Stokes equations, then to define sensors and actuators, that can sense the flow state and affect its evolution. 3. 3. Stability of UO2 in systems containing radiolytic oxidants : The role of uranyl peroxide species

    Author : Junyi Li; Mats Jonsson; Peter Burns; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UO2; studtite; XPS; radiolysis; UO2; studtit; XPS; radiolys; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Nuclear power constitutes a major pillar on the global energy market, and it will most probably increase in importance as fossil fuels are gradually phased out. The main problem connected to nuclear power is the generation of highly radiotoxic spent nuclear fuel (95% UO2 and 5% radioactive fission products and heavier actinides). READ MORE

  4. 4. Aiming at Moving Targets : Applying Cognitive Work Analysis to Work Domains in Transition

    Author : Ida Löscher; Anders Arweström Jansson; Åsa Cajander; Camilla Fröjd; Stas Krupenia; Catherine Burns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cognitive work analysis; work domain analysis; control task analysis; strategies analysis; abstraction hierarchy; contextual activity template; activity prioritization; systems design; heavy vehicle development; long haul trucks; intensive care; nursing; digitalization.; Computer Science with specialization in Human-Computer Interaction; Datavetenskap med inriktning mot människa-datorinteraktion;

    Abstract : The design of IT systems for complex work environments is essential for workers to be able to operate more effectively and efficiently. To design a system that supports the workers' specific tasks we need to understand the work demands and the context in which the system operates. READ MORE

  5. 5. Characterization of IgY for Oral Immunotherapy and Prevention of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infections in Cystic Fibrosis Patients

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Anders Larsson; Jane Burns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Chicken antibodies, commonly referred to as IgY, have several properties that make them suitable for oral treatment of infections and there is essentially no risk for development of resistance. The overall aims of this thesis were to investigate Anti-Pseudomonas IgY as prophylaxis against infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and to characterize the antibody treatment.
