  1. 1. Cancer Risk Assessment of Glycidol : Evaluation of a Multiplicative Risk Model for Genotoxic Compounds

    Author : Jenny Aasa; Margareta Törnqvist; Elaine M. Faustman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glycidol; 3-monochloropropane-1; 2-diol 3-MCPD ; genotoxicity; mutations; micronuclei; hemoglobin adducts; in vivo dose; multiplicative risk model; cancer risk assessment; human cancer risk; miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to chemical compounds in everyday life, both from the environment and from endogenous processes. Some compounds constitute a risk for cancer development. One such compound is glycidol, which is genotoxic and an animal carcinogen. It is the model compound of this work, partly due to its presence in food. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exposure, telomere length, and cancer risk

    Author : Huiqi Li; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exposure; telomere; methylation; chromosomal aberration; cancer risk; rubber fumes; arsenic; welding fumes; diesel exhaust; particulate matter;

    Abstract : Telomeres are tandem repeats of TTAGGG at the end of eukaryotic chromosomes. Telomeres play a key role in chromosome stability and regulation of the cellular lifespan. Telomeres are shortened during cell division, and probably, by not yet well characterised factors in the environment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quartz in Swedish iron foundries : exposure and cancer risk

    Author : Lena Andersson; Håkan Westberg; Gunilla Lindström; Per Gustavsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Case-control study; crystalline silica; exposure assessment; iron foundry; lung cancer; morbidity; occupational hygiene; respirable quartz; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess the exposure to quartz in Swedish iron foundries and to determine the cancer morbidity for Swedish foundry workers. A cohort of 3,045 foundry workers and a final measurement database of 2,333 number of samples was established. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metabolic factors and cancer risk : prospective studies on prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and cancer overall

    Author : Tanja Stocks; Pär Stattin; Håkan Jonsson; Annie Lukanova; Jaap Seidell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : Background: A large number of prospective studies have shown that overweight and diabetes are related to an increased risk of many cancers, including colorectal cancer. In contrast, diabetes has been related to a decreased risk of prostate cancer, and overweight has been related to an increased risk of fatal, but not of incident, prostate cancer. READ MORE
