  1. 1. Metabolic Engineering of the Central Carbon Metabolism in Streptococcus thermophilus for Enhanced Exopolysaccharide Production

    University dissertation from Applied Microbiology (LTH)

    Author : Malin Svensson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; mykologi; Biochemistry; virologi; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virology; mycology; bacteriology; Streptococcus thermophilus; Microbiology; Metabolic engineering; Lactic acid bacteria; Exopolysaccharides; Central carbon metabolism;

    Abstract : The lactic acid bacterium, Streptococcus thermophilus, is used in the dairy industry in mixed cultures with Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus for the production of yoghurt. Many strains of S. thermophilus produce exopolysaccharides (EPSs) which affect the texture and viscosity of fermented food products. READ MORE

  2. 2. Metabolic analysis of shikimic acid producing Escherichia coli

    University dissertation from Chemical Engineering, Lund University

    Author : Louise Johansson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Efterfrågan på shikimsyra, vilken återfinns i biosyntesvägen för bl.a. de aromatiska aminosyrorna tryptofan, fenylalanin och tyrosin, har under de senare åren ökat. Orsaken till detta är mestadels att den är råmatrial till antiinfluensamedicinen Tamiflu?. READ MORE

  3. 3. Low temperature acclimation in plants alterations in photosynthetic carbon metabolism

    University dissertation from Umeå : Fysiologisk botanik

    Author : Maria Lundmark; Umeå universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : Plant physiology; cold acclimation; carbon metabolism; photosynthesis; respiration; Växtfysiologi; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Although low temperature plays an important role in determining agricultural yield, little is known about the effect on the underlying biochemical and physiological processes that influence plant growth. Photosynthesis and respiration are central to plant growth and both processes are heavily affected by temperature. READ MORE

  4. 4. Efficient Conversion of Lignocellulose Hydrolysates- Yeast Tolerance and Redox Metabolism

    University dissertation from Department of Chemical Engineering, Lund University

    Author : Tobias Modig; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; hyperosmotic stress; Biochemistry; S. cerevisiae; anaerobic growth; inhibitor tolerance; furfural; lignocellulose; HMF; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The fermentation of lignocellulose hydrolysates by Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanol production was investigated. An important problem for the successful conversion of these hydrolysates is that they often are inhibitory. READ MORE
