1. Modelling the Winds from Carbon Rich AGB Stars : Implications for Stellar Evolution and the Chemical Evolution of Galaxies
Abstract : Stars on the AGB are known to lose mass at high rates (10-8 - 10-4 Msun/yr) through slow winds (20 km/s), enriching the inter stellar medium with newly synthesised elements. We explore how the mass loss for C-rich AGB stars depends on the basic stellar parameters by computing a large grid of wind models. READ MORE

2. Charting Circumstellar Chemistry of Carbon-rich AGB Stars
Abstract : Stars of low to intermediate initial masses (0.8 - 8 M⊙) enter the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase during their late evolution. READ MORE

3. Metabolic analysis of shikimic acid producing Escherichia coli
Abstract : Shikimic acid production using recombinant E.coli has been developed during the past 15 years due to the increased demand of this product, primarily as a starting material for the anti-influensa medicine Tamiflu?. A detailed metabolic analysis of a shikimic acid producing E. READ MORE

4. A Study of Grain Drift in C Stars : Theoretical Modeling of Dust-Driven Winds in Carbon-Rich Pulsating Giant Stars
Abstract : A major fraction of stars will pass through a short period of dramatic events in their final evolutionary stage. Low- to intermediate-mass stars, studied here, are stripped of their outer parts in a slow massive wind. This mass loss reshapes both the star and the surrounding medium. READ MORE

5. Wear resistant low friction coatings for machine elements
Abstract : By the introduction of machine elements made of light metals, e.g. Al or Mg alloys, which are coated with a material providing high wear resistance and low friction coefficient, both economical and environmental benefits can be gained. A high resistance against wear results in increased lifetime and lower costs for spare parts and maintenance. READ MORE
