  1. 1. A Quantitative Thermogravimetric Study on the Nonevaporable Water in Mature Silica Fume Concrete: Influence of Carbonation and Moisture Conditions

    Author : Elisabeth Helsing Atlassi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture; carbonation; cement composites; cement; thermogravimetric method;

    Abstract : The primary goal of the project presented here was to study and quantify the influence of materials parameters (cement type, silica fume content, w/c ratio, type and dose of superplasticizers) and environmental parameters (carbonation and moisture history) on the nonevaporable water in hydrated cement composites. In order to achieve this, a thermogravimetric method which separates different types of nonevaporable water (bound in different hydrates and hydroxide) and carbonation products was developed. 2. 2. The influence of ageing on the salt-frost resistance of concrete

    Author : Peter Utgenannt; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materiallära; materialteknik; Building construction; Material technology; freeze thaw testing; hydration; field exposure; carbonation; drying; Byggnadsteknik; ageing; salt-frost resistance; Concrete;

    Abstract : Abstract This thesis presents the results of an investigation of the influence of ageing on the salt-frost resistance of concrete. The ageing mechanisms investigated were hydration, drying and carbonation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Water film-mediated mineralogical transformations and photocatalytic reactions

    Author : N. Tan Luong; Jean-Francois Boily; Michael Holmboe; Alejandro Fernandez-Martinez; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mineral; water films; carbon dioxide; MgO; MnCO3; TiO2; hydroxylation; carbonation; oxidation; transformation; photocatalysis; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi; nanomaterials; nanomaterial; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Mineral particles capture water vapor in the atmosphere in the form of water films that are only few monolayers thick. Water films form nanoscale hydration environments that mediate a wide range of important reactions in nature and technology. READ MORE

  4. 4. Early Hydration of Portland Cement

    Author : Rikard Ylmén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SEM; freeze-drying; cement; calorimetry; nano-silica; carbonation; hydration; FTIR; infrared spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The production of cement is responsible forapproximately 7 % of the total CO2 emissions caused by man. To compensate for high energyconsumption and CO2 emission, thus making the utilization of concrete more sustainable,several strategies can be used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Shrinkage and Related Properties of Alkali-Activated Binders Based on High MgO Blast Furnace Slag

    Author : Abeer Humad; Andrzej Cwirzen; John L. Provis; Karin Habermehl-Cwirzen; Andrzej Garbacz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alkali-activated slag; alkali-activated materials; high-MgO blast furnace slag; shrinkage; creep; carbonation; strength; heat curing; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : Concrete is the second most used material in the world just after water. A drawback is that it is mostly based on Portland cement, which has an extremely high carbon footprint reaching a staggering 900 kg/tonne. The carbon dioxide emissions related to the production of the Portland cement accounts for nearly 8 % of the global total. READ MORE
