  1. 1. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Author : Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 2. 2. Biomarkers in Cardiovascular Dysautonomia: an Emerging Field

    Author : Madeleine Johansson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomarkers; Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction; Syncope; Orthostatic hypotension; Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome; Cardiovascular disease; Autonomic dysfunction;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction is a multifactorial disorder manifested as orthostatic hypotension (OH) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). OH has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood and explored. READ MORE

  3. 3. Risk factors for incident heart failure and atrial fibrillation in an elderly population : The role of cardiac conduction and heart rate variability

    Author : Bozena Ostrowska; Carina Blomström Lundqvist; Lars Lind; Mikael Dellborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; incident heart failure; incident atrial fibrillation; prediction of heart failure; short P-wave duration; heart rate variability.; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are epidemic diseases, frequently coexisting, sharing risk factors and conferring poor prognosis. Identification of individuals at high risk of HF and AF may enable early treatment and improve the prognosis. Reliable prediction models for daily clinical practice are lacking. READ MORE

  4. 4. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. The role of cardiovascular dysautonomia and inflammation

  5. 5. Cellular electrophysiological modulation in chronic atrial fibrillation - Studies with magnesium and GIK solution

    Author : Max Ingemansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Action potential duration; Atrial cycle length; Atrial remodelling; Autonomic nervous system; AV-nodal; Conduction velocity; GIK; Magnesium; Resting membrane potential.; Refractoriness; Atrial fibrillation; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Although chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in man, the mechanisms involved in its progressive course are still not fully understood. Recent studies have verified an electrical remodelling of the atrial myocardium that may be responsible for the electrophysiological disturbances known to exist in the fibrillating atria. READ MORE
