  1. 1. Transpulmonary pressure during mechanical ventilation

    Author : Christina Grivans; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical ventilation; Acute lung injury; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Lung volume measurements; Electric Impedance diagnostic use; Lung elastance; Transpulmonary pressure; Esophageal pressure;

    Abstract : Background: Mechanical ventilation can aggravate lung injury by repetitive opening and closing of lung units, overdistention and undue pressure on pulmonary structures. Guidelines exist for lung protective ventilation, but individualized ventilator settings, based on partitioning of respiratory mechanics in pulmonary and chest wall complex components, would be beneficial. 2. 2. Sedation during mechanical ventilation in intensive care - Sedation practices and patients' memories, stressful experiences and psychological distress

    University dissertation from Division of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Karin Samuelson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care unit; Mechanical ventilation; Patient comfort; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; Sedation; Respiratory nursing;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Sedering vid respiratorbehandling inom intensivvård ? praxis av sedering och patienters minnen, påfrestande upplevelser och psykologiska problem Akut svårt sjuka patienter i behov av respiratorbehandling på en intensivvårds-avdelning (IVA) utsätts för akut stress och diverse obehag från sjukdomen och/eller skadan, behandlingen, andningstuben och IVA-miljön. Minnesstörningar, påfrestande upplevelser, oro, rädsla och förekomst av overkliga minnen såsom mardrömmar har visat sig vara vanligt och kan upplevas som mycket obehagligt av patienten, både under IVA-tiden och i lång tid efteråt. 3. 3. The challenge of communication during home mechanical ventilation

    University dissertation from Division of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Katja Laakso; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communication; Communicative partner; Health-related quality of life; Home mechanical ventilation; International Classification of Functioning; Disability and Health; Qualitative research design; Disability and Health;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore and describe experience of communication during home mechanical ventilation (HMV) in adults, thereby contributing to increased knowledge and awareness of issues related to ventilator-supported communication. Mechanical ventilatory support seriously affects speaking and communication. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spirodynamics. New methods for continuous monitoring of respiratory mechanics in ventilator-treated patients

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Sigurbergur Kárason; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2000]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Monitoring; Respiratory mechanics; Mechanical ventilation; Compliance; Alveolar pressure; Dynostatic algorithm; ALI; ARDS; Model; Human.;

    Abstract : Introduction: Ventilator treatment is often life-saving but has the inherent risk of causing damage to lung tissues. Overdistension and repetitive collapsing/opening of alveoli should be avoided. Monitoring of respiratory mechanics has a central role in accomplishing this. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Intensive Care Unit syndrome/delirium, patients' perspective and clinical signs

    University dissertation from Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lund

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Patienternas perspektiv på att vara IVA patient i relation till IVA syndrom/delirium Att intensivvårdspatienter (IVA patienter) som vårdats med respirator inte minns sin tid på IVA är en myt. Det finns patienter som inte minns , men de flesta patienterna i avhandlingen minns från uppvaknandet och borttagandet av droger och respiratorn sin tid de närmaste dagarna därefter med ett s k "pusselminne", "sekvensminne" .
