1. Maturation-dependent normal and injury-induced changes in rabbit knee articular cartilage
Abstract : Cartilage injuries are common in sports, and may on the long term develop to osteoarthritis. Prosthetic joint replacement is not satisfactory for young active individuals with extended cartilage injuries in large weight-bearing joints. In these cases, a treatment is needed which reestablishes normal joint surfaces by biologic means. READ MORE

2. Cartilage Tissue Engineering. A study on how to improve cartilage repair
Abstract : One of the first examples of musculoskeletal tissue engineering is autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI).The first patient with a cartilage lesion was operated with ACI in 1987 and at that time suspension implantation was used. READ MORE

3. Cartilage Tissue Engineering; the search for chondrogenic progenitor cells and associated signalling pathways
Abstract : The socioeconomic cost of articular cartilage related diseases in the Western world is very high. The suffering of the individual patient is even more problematic. READ MORE

4. Articular and epiphyseal cartilage : its formation, maintenance and repair
Abstract : Long bones develop via a series of ordered processes, initiated from mesenchymal stem cell condensation, cartilage anlagen formation, followed by central cell hypertrophy and vascular invasion and the finalized by the formation of primary and secondary ossification centers (SOC), where the latter is also called endochondral ossification. As long bone develops, it can be distinguished in to several morphologically distinct parts: the main shaft of a long bone, called diaphysis; a narrow disc of growth plate, providing a continuous supply of chondrocytes for longitudinal growth; a thin layer of articular cartilage at the ends of epiphysis, supporting joint movement, and a SOC, sandwiched between the two pieces of cartilage. 5. Clinical and radiographic outcome of meniscectomy and meniscus repair in the stable knee
Abstract : Increasing knowledge about the function of the meniscus and arthroscopy have made meniscus surgery more conservative. Arthroscopy was developed during the 70's and enabled the surgeon to select the most appropriate and tissue conserving therapy for a meniscus lesion. READ MORE
