  1. 1. Synthesis and Characterization of Functionalized Silica Mesoporous Crystals : Cationic Surfactant and Co-structure Directing Agent System

    Author : Lu Han; Osamu Terasaki; Viveka Alfredsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mesoporous silica; Template synthesis; Functionalization; Electron microscopy; Defects; Crystal growth; Catalysis; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Structural Chemistry; strukturkemi;

    Abstract : This dissertation has been focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel functionalized silica mesoporous crystals by using cationic surfactant and co–structure directing agents (CSDA), the central concept of the synthesis method is to build proper organic/inorganic interactions by introducing CSDA into the synthesis system. By using cationic surfactant as template and anionic CSDA, carboxylic group functionalized mesoporous silicas were successfully synthesized. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design and synthesis of rhodium and iridium bis-η2 diolefin catalysts: : Applications in C–C bond formation and asymmetric catalysis

    Author : Michaela Melcher; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : catalysis; transition metal; ligand design; enantioselectivity; cycloadditions;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the design and synthesis of rhodium and iridium bis-η2 diolefin catalysts and their applications in C–C bond formation and asymmetric catalysis.More specifically, the second chapter describes the development of inter- and intramolecular (5+2) cycloadditions catalyzed by cationic iridium(I) complexes that lead to the formation of seven-membered rings in a single step. 3. 3. Strategies for cellulose fiber modification

    Author : Per Persson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Candida antarctica lipase B; cationic catalysis; cellulose-binding module; dendrimer; enzymatic polymerization; fiber modification; silica-cast replica; sol-gel mineralization; organocatalysis; xyloglucan endotransglycosylase;

    Abstract : This thesis describes strategies for and examples ofcellulose fiber modification.The ability of an engineered biocatalyst, acellulose-binding module fused to theCandida antarcticalipase B, to catalyze ring-openingpolymerization of e-caprolactone in close proximity tocellulose fiber surfaces was explored. 4. 4. Transition-Metal Catalyzed Synthesis of Small- and Medium-Sized Rings Applications toward oxazole synthesis, cycloheptadienes, and natural products

    Author : Henrik von Wachenfeldt; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalysis; transition metal; cyclization; cycloaddition; natural product;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of novel methodologies for the synthesis of hetero- and carbocycles enabled by transition metal catalysis. The second chapter of the thesis describes a gold-catalyzed three-component reaction to form a variety of substituted oxazoles from readily available N-benzylimines, terminal alkynes, and acyl chlorides. 5. 5. Understanding the mechanisms behind atom transfer radical polymerization : exploring the limit of control

    Author : Helena Bergenudd; Mats Jonsson; Eva Malmström Jonsson; David M Haddleton; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymerization; controlled radical polymerization; atom transfer radical polymerization; kinetics; catalysis; electrochemistry; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is one of the most commonly employed techniques for controlled radical polymerization. ATRP has great potential for the development of new materials due to the ability to control molecular weight and polymer architecture. READ MORE
