1. Understanding the mechanisms behind atom transfer radical polymerization : exploring the limit of control
Abstract : Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is one of the most commonly employed techniques for controlled radical polymerization. ATRP has great potential for the development of new materials due to the ability to control molecular weight and polymer architecture. READ MORE

2. Strategies for cellulose fiber modification
Abstract : This thesis describes strategies for and examples ofcellulose fiber modification. The ability of an engineered biocatalyst, acellulose-binding module fused to theCandida antarcticalipase B, to catalyze ring-openingpolymerization of e-caprolactone in close proximity tocellulose fiber surfaces was explored. 3. Zwitterionic Separation Materials for Liquid Chromatography and Capillary Electrophoresis : Synthesis, Characterization and Application for Inorganic Ion and Biomolecule Separations
Abstract : Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) are modern analytical techniques that play very important roles in many areas of modern science such as life science, biotechnology, biomedicine, environmental studies, and development of pharmaceutics. Even though these two techniques have existed and been subjected to studies for several decades, the developments of new separation materials for them are still very important till now in order to meet the different new demands for improvement from other disciplines in science. 4. Functional Copolymers of Polyvinylpyrrolidone
Abstract : In many ways, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has a unique combination of chemical and physical properties. Unlike most polymers it is soluble in water as well as a number of organic solvents. PVP also has excellent film forming properties, outstanding chemical stability, complexing ability, low toxicity, and good adherence to many different substrates. READ MORE

5. Synthesis of End-functionalized Polyesters byRing-Opening Polymerization of ε-Caprolactone
Abstract : The main objective of this work was to investigate the ring-opening polymerizations of cyclic esters by enzyme catalysis and cationic activated monomer polymerization in the search for new polymer materials and fiber-based composites. Candida antarcica lipase B was used for end-functionalization of poly(ε-caprolactone) and in the copolymerization of D,L-lactide and ε-caprolactone. READ MORE
